Prayers for my Uncle...update.....update at bottom

Post by firefuzz »

Fella's I sure would appreciate your prayers for my Uncle Floyd, recurring lymphoma. He's in pretty bad shape, but has high spirits and will never give up. He's a Vietnam vet, 10th Special Forces Group and, next to my Dad, my life-long hero.

When I was five years old we lived in town and Dad worked 60 hr weeks, before we moved to the farm, and Uncle Floyd pulled up in the drive just as the neighborhood bully was finishing giving me a pretty good thrashing, pretty much a daily occurrence. He didn't interrupt, but when it was over he picked me up and dusted me off. Then he told me to quit my blubbering and go whip his butt. Told me to jump on him and punch, kick, or bite anything on the other guy I could and not to stop until he was screaming like a little girl. I did, and he ran home crying. His dad, a big, (at least to me at the time) hairy, very loud talking truck driver, came stomping over saying he was going to whip my butt. Uncle Floyd had just got home on leave and was in full Class A uniform. He calmly stepped in front of me and open-hand slapped the man so hard it knocked him to his knees, grabbed him by the shirt and very quietly explained the facts of life to him. I couldn't hear exactly what was said, but I was never bothered by the boy or his dad again.

That was fifty years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.

He took me on my only elk hunt when I was fourteen and he wound up having to shoot a grizzly bear that attacked us while we were dressing an elk he'd shot. That was over forty years ago and I sat on that same rug the last time I was at his house 10 years ago.

When he was 44 he was diagnosed with acute rheumatoid arthritis when he woke up one morning and couldn't move his legs. He was told by several doctors he would never walk unassisted again. Nine months later he played 18 holes of golf from a cart and a year after that he walked the same 18 holes.

I know I'm bragging, but he's a lot of man. My Dad's gone and I'm not ready to lose my only other true hero.

Please help him with your prayers.

Rob

Roman's 8:28

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Trying very hard to stay focused on this. Got the word on Father's Day evening that the doctors have stopped treating the cancer, the treatments are hurting him more than helping. His spirit hasn't given up but his body has. Just a matter of time now.

He's the last of my life hero's and although we don't see each other very often I always knew he was there....and now that time grows short.

Thanks for all the prayers guys, but I'd ask you to pray that he has a peaceful passing...he's earned it.

Well Uncle Floyd stepped into the next life on Tuesday afternoon. Somehow during the snafu of things my name got checked off list as having been called and I didn't find out until yesterday morning early. Really bad day here. My Aunt said he was down to under 80 pounds when he died, a far cry from the 6', 180 pound man I remember. He requested to be cremated for that reason, didn't want any of us to see him like that.

The memorial service is Monday, and I won't be able to go. I've been nursing my whole family thru the flu this last week and I'm pretty sure my times coming. Can't take that to the rest of my family. But the guilt of not being there is about to drive me crazy.

Prayers please, for my Aunt and cousins. My world just got smaller and I know it's worse for them.

What guilt? Your uncle understands. Send a message to the family explaining your absence. If you would have spoken, send that and ask someone to read it for you. I'm sorry you'll miss the funeral, they are often such a beautiful occasion and sharing your loss amongst others who also grieve is very healing.
Ditch the guilt. It's in your head not your heart.
Kind regards,
Tycer
