Source for cast bullets

Post by Goat »

I have a Marlin 1894 in 41 Magnum and want a 250gr cast bullet for plinking and general pupose shooting. I know that there are plenty "premium" cast hunting bullets but I do not want to pay as much for my plinkers as I do for jacketed bullets. What options do I have other than casting my own?

You should try Midwayusa.com or Brownells.com, but I am not sure if either one does carry them because it isn't something I have looked for. Also, try Tennessee Valley Bullets.

I have been using www.tru-cast.com bullets. The service is incredible. Every time I order, the bullets show up in a couple of days. Shipping is by flat rate box, so it is very reasonable as well. I have nothing but good to say about Mr. Dunn and his bullets.

I've had the opportunity to try examples from several different manufacturer's cast bullets. On a couple of ocassions, I simply did a yellowpages.com search in my area for available suppliers. Of those, a box for trial can be quite illuminating. Or not... depending on the individual.

Good luck.

I had a .41 Mag. back in the late 70's and that was the problem I had for it then. Poor bullet selection. Back then you could have any bullet you wanted as long as it weighed 210 grains.

http://www.montanabulletworks.com/ is a supporter/advertiser of this site. I've had good response and good service from them. They show bullets for the 41mag., IME will make them any size or hardness you want, and are in line with other's pricing.

Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat . . . . Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words.

If ya find a good cast load for yer Marlin I'd love to hear about it.

Right now I just shoot 170 gr Sierra's loaded with 21.7 gr Win 296.
I can usually keep the holes touching at 50 yds.

The same bullet on top of 7.5 gr Unique is a good quiet bunny tumbler.
Usually groups around 1 inch at 50 yards.

Tried some cast bullets with no good luck yet. Best group was 3+ inches
at 50 yds. If you want the rest of the box of Lasercasts 215 gr SWC
let me know where to send em. Old guys I shoot with tell me they are
just too hard.

I'm thinkin of tryin the Leadhead Keith SWC next. Think they are at

that is the main reason my 41 mag got a one way ticket to the gunshow.it did ok with jacketed loads but cast loads well... stunk.I mixed alloys from ww to ww pb and lino mixes..412+ shot the best groups but nothing to talk about.it was the last MG lever I'll ever own and I don't give up easy.
can you saw winchester   no more MG marlins.

I have a sheet from custom cast bullets. I just talked to him at a gunshow this last week. He's cutting back on certain bulllets because he can't find a consistant source for lead. Any way his price sheet shows this

.410 225 gr FN $60 per 1000
.410 215 gr swcgc $50 per 250
.411 260 fn gc $50 per 250
