memory

Post by Mescalero »

I was thinking about my Star .380 and doing the 7.62 precision finish thing, when I realised; I cannot remember where, when; and from whom I bought it.
Anybody else?

Memory is a strange thing. If you use it you remember things. If you don't

Guns..??

Were you talking about guns..??

I don't have any guns.. All of my guns were destroyed in a fire at the bottom of Yellowstone Lake...

Nope - I've been making memo lists for years, starting after I got a call from the FBI in the early -70's, who were investigating a local bank robbery.

They were inquiring about, & tracing, a .357 Mag derringer that was dropped @ the scene of the crime, and had gotten my information from the LGS I bought the gun from.

Fortunately (for me), I remembered the name of the private individual I sold it to - who worked with a friend of mine at/for a burglar alarm company.
(I never heard anything further, either from the FBI or the guy I sold the gun to.)

I keep a hardcopy file that contains every bill-of-sale for guns bought by me, and/or the FFL copy or name/address of where the guns I've sold went to - just in case the Feds come marching in again.

I hate to be the odd man out here, but I can remember a bit about each gun, where it was acquired, what was going on in my life, and on some, what was going on at the place of sale. Prolly my obsession with guns etches every gun transaction deeply in my mind...

But then again, I got a late start and bought my first gun in 1969 when I was 22 yrs. old...

Heaven's no, I can't remember the details of every purchase. But, in my database (used to be a little book) I have all sorts of details like when bought, where/from whom, price, even the 4473 number. Now if I could just remember what folder the database is in.
