Tia and me are aging....quickly too!

Post by Nath »

My darling Tia is aging folks, she has some swelling around her wrists and is not as nimble any more on her front legs, gone very near totally deaf too!

Still try's though but I hold her back now, she is on light duties. Sure am glad I worked on hand signals with her.

Used the boom stick tonight with her.

She has been the best hunting dog I have owned and grew up on here.

you might want to run a pup with her - keep her nimble and pass on her knowledge.
check with your vet about ibuprofen for the swelling.

I know you will take good care of her Nath, sometimes old age is no fun!

Can you clarify what "using a broomstick with her" means? Also, do you think that her hearing has suffered d/t being exposed to gunfire over the years? I know that people in SASS who do mounted cowboy shooting will use large foam earplugs in their horses ears to protect their hearing.
Sorry to hear about your doggie, and yes we are all growing old.

FWIW, Thor is nearing 8, and gets a fish oil every day with the one I take. Nimble as ever, and all the stamina of a lad half his age.

A good dog is something that is just too special to put to words. Yours looks to be truly comfortable hunting anything.

What do you do with those pigeons - more specifically, do you have recipes?

Oh no! Not the Tia! Dang. Maybe get her on some glucosamine -- that seems to help keep me motorvating, and it was being used by the vets before us people got on to it.

She is a beautiful dog.
I am sure she will to please you and her own natural love of hunting and spending time with her best friend will over do it.
Simple fact there comes a time to have her ease up some.
Also keep her weight in line as the activity level drops and she will still amaze you everyday.
You two have really had a go of it and with things going just a little slower, I wager many more fine hunts to come.

Thanks fellers. A friend got a horse better and is taking a saddle again by giving it black pepper and turmeric. I have been sprinkling some on her food. It seems that her recovery time has shortened some!

The pigeon make good burgers with onions. Pepper. Chilli . No salt needed.

Sounds as if you are on the right track with Tia. Just stay away from Paracetamol, known as Tylenol here in the US. It is poisonous to dogs.

Nath, you and your sweet dog are two of the best reasons to come here. Hope you and your vet can keep her fit and comfortable for seasons to come. Nothing wrong with light duty!

Nath, When I see Tia and this post I think of my late Father's telling me why he wouldn't replace his dog. He told me they are the only love you can buy but, usually you outlive them. He didn't want that loss again.
