do you guys leave your boooolits in your gun leather?
i am sitting with a bottle of brasso cleaning my 45lc that i left in mt belt...
boy this stuff stinks......but cleans them right up!

and what leather cleaner/conditioner do you guys use?

I won't leave ammo in leather, whether it's an ammo pouch, cartridge belt or holster belt. I don't thing it will cause any harm other than making the rounds look bad.

I know there are several ways to tan leather. I wonder if, say, vegetable tanning would lessen the formation of verdigris.

I have a cartridge belt that I had made, it has 25 loops for .357 and it has been full for about 4 years, but the cases are nickel with no verdigris. My friend at the boot shop said he would order the leather to make the loops, maybe it is tanned different.

Nickeled brass won't corrode as does plain brass. If you are going to leave brass in leather loops nickeled brass would be the way to so.

Nickle plated brass will stay good in leather loops. That is what I use in my CAS belts.

I leave most of mine loaded in the belts. I may want to use them at any time.

I clean the rounds off a couple times a year with a rag, they seem OK with that.

Nickel brass is nice as far as getting grunged up in a belt, though I like the looks of the aged brass in the belts. I have one or two belts that nickel brass doesn't stay in the loops well. They are a bit borderline as to fit, and the nickel brass tends to fall out when carrying the belts around when getting in and out of vehicles.

Yep.

Shoot 'em and refill the loops 4 or 5 time per year.

If Brasso contains ammonia you may not want to use it on cartridge brass.

"MOST" leather tanning chemicals will initiate a verdigris growth on the brass and leather. It IS NOT good. It by necessity, uses the brass of your case and the chemicals in your leather to form... which means it can and will over time, cause degradation of the brass and your leather.

If the nickeling of your brass is wearing thin, even nickel cases will suffer. I never keep cases in my leather... for anything other than short-time uses.

If you want to keep cases in your leather, coat the cases with finger-nail polish... thoroughly. Even a coating of polish will eventually wear down and result in the form of verdigris.
