I've got that one on DVD. The rifle is a Win 92. Hollyweird modified many of those to look sorta like Henrys. All they did really was make the rifle look like a Rube Goldberg contraption.

In their defense, there weren't the good replica Henry rifles available at that time...(still despise the Hollywood philosophy). Liberal bastiges!!
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.

In watching old movies I hate to think of the value today of the originals they were using. Of course back then they were just old guns.

The new version has some nice Italian replicas, and Sharon Stone.

I just watched that version and saw that horrible looking '92 made to somewhat look like a Henry. I guess what I don't understand is, why. They had other Henry's. I suppose they where Italian.

IMO, the Sam Elliot version comes a damnsight closer to real life for settlers traveling on the prairie, in spite of Kate wearing that flimsy stuff. The Gene Hackman, Russel Crowe, Sharon Stone version is nothing but a joke. jd45

I watched Rancho Deluxe last night, which I hadn't seen since the flight deck of CV-66 in 1976.
It's a modern cattle-rustling western, where the rustlers are the protagonists and do get their just desserts.
But it's a fun movie and there's a 50-cal Sharps in the plot.

I'm not much of a Sam Elliot fan, but that's probably as good as he gets.

Stone is fine, but the rest of the cast of that particular movie I would be happy to never see again. Hackman and "DiCapitated" particularly.

Brent, have you never seen Elliot in "The Rough Riders"? I thought he was pretty good in that, but if you're not a fan, I guess you might not be impressed. I got all choked up right along with Tom Berenger as Teddy R. at the end when he said "They're no cowards here this day, or something to that effect. jd45

I don't recall that one directly. If it was from his younger days, like the one in discussion, I'd probably like it. I think his style grew a little old on me over time. Everyone has their favorites. I hear there are even people that think John Wayne is great...

I do like Sam Elliott. I have the VHS of his "Quick and the Dead" as well as a tape of "Conagher," another Louis L'Amour he did for Turner, with his wife, Katherine Ross. They have a ranch here in Oregon. Someone spotted him at a Portland doctor's office not long ago. He was taking his mom to her appointment.
Regular guy.
