Great pics you posted.
I tried to post mine but???
I phone size is too large, then tried photobucket and couldn't get that to load.
So here is the story sans pics.
We have a Christian Misistry in our County that is a food pantry for the less fortunate amoung us. Part of this mission is called "the deer project". Last year we hunters donated 9,500 pounds of ground venison. So far this year as of last Friday we are up to 7,300 pounds of ground meat.
The pic I have is of 4 Does hanging at our camp to go to them that I couldn't post. I hope to donate more later.
By the way Safari Club International kicks in some money to to help promote this endeavor. There is no charge to the hunter for donating the deer. All processing fees are donated throughout the year.

Here's where I started out hunting this morning.

Things were slow until these two showed up about lunch.

These were the tools that I took.

This guy came by about forty five minutes before dark down the same trail he used yesterday.

This will be a little different. I shot the world's fattest fox squirrel last weekend. When I picked her up, I thought she would have a tumor in her or something. But it was just fat.

Ignore the one on the left -that's just the skin of one I had just cleaned.

Image

There was about 5/8" layer of fat around the belly, just under the skin. Then another huge glob of fat inside the abdominal cavity as well. Never seen anything like it. After stripping out all the excess, she was just a normal sized squirrel after all. Dinner tonight!

Ed,
That was the best tasting squirrel I have ever eaten. It was amazing! I wish I had saved the fat and rendered it for pie crusts or something like that. Too good for bullet lube!

I've shot many hundreds of squirrels and never seen anything like that.

The shooter is just another middle-aged guy with a taste for building nice rifles and eating grilled squirrels. :)

The rifle is a bit more interesting, but it's just another Winchester - with a few embellishments. I don't want to distract folks from this nice thread that RIHMFIRE started. We need more hunting pictures and that's all I have for rifle hunting so far. Heck we don't even have bears down here on a regular basis.

Did a little bird hunting two weekends back though
Same boring shooter, and a few of his boring friends. :)
The dog is pretty special though.

yes it is, RIHMFIRE. I love hunting with Gus. I'm hoping to do it again this weekend, but the weather will be a whole lot less appealing to be sure. I'll try to kill a few squirrels too if any are crazy enough to be out on the weekend.

The only hunting pic I took this year. My wife and elk hunting buddy packing out his raghorn bull from Colorado second season. It was to warm for elk hunting but we got within 600 yards of another young bull the last day of season. Trouble is I am getting old and just can't get after it like I used to. I ran out of gas before we were able to close the distance.

Nice pics guy's. Keep it coming. Gun season starts here this weekend, so, who knows. Had to scoot a big ol' bear out of the driveway yesterday so I good roll the trash can down for pick up. Neighbors don't like him, but he don't really bother anybody. City folks.

I'll gleefully post my favorite hunting picture from today.

You might think it should be anything but gleeful, but I drive a Ford. And no, I don't do this to rub Chevy fans' noses in the mud, but because this guy and at least 3 buddies in 3 other trucks were hunting coyotes with dogs. They had the section I was hunting pheasants surrounded with a coyote in the middle. Perhaps all fine and good but only I had permission on this property for the weekend. And while dogs may not know about property lines, truck drivers are expected too.

When I first saw this guy, he was going well over 50 miles an hour in a harvested cornfield. I doubt he was the owner of that field. Later he was barreling across another field that I doubt he owned. But for darn sure, when I saw his abandoned truck the last time, it was in the middle of the property I was on, and I KNOW he didn't have permission there.

I gotta say, I got a lot of satisfaction out if this.

Yeah, I sent photos to the landowner.

Brent

PS. I did pick up three pheasants over 2 days. Some very poor shooting on my part, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Were it my property, I would have done a lot more than that. But I was a guest, albeit unescorted. The owner is following up right now.

Actually, I was thinking of sending the photos and a story to the local paper (very small town, rural Iowa). The truck is local and undoubtedly well known.

Embarrassment in public might have a lot more impact. Besides, I had nothing to write a note with or on, besides my knife and the truck's hood :) Oh so tempting.

Actually, not at all. Coyotes are a pheasant's best friend. Anywhere there are foxes, coons, opossums and skunks, coyotes save way more pheasants than they kill. Especially true with respect to foxes.
