Where to Find a Quality Set of Precision/Mini Screwdrivers?

Post by Woodtroll »

Hello, friends,

Like the topic says, I find myself in need of miniature screwdrivers more and more often, and sometimes the $3.99-a-set Harbor Freight ones make it hard to do precision work. Where would I find a decent set that would not chew up the screws I am working on? I don't need an extensive set, just a few very small flat and Phillips sizes. Thanks very much!

.

I've been using this $8 multi-bit screwdriver from Lowe's home Improvement Center, for the past 6 years or so, w/o any issues.

 I get mine off the dining room table where my son has his RC car stuff strewn about! That Kobalt set looks good!

How small is 'small'?

On Amazon, here's a semi-miniature set

http://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-2977-Phill ... driver+set

another set, this is a very good brand, I've used their stuff

http://www.amazon.com/Wiha-26194-Screwd ... driver+set

If you do a search there on "miniature screwdriver set" you get a listing from the almost normal size, down to what I call 'eyeglasses screwdrivers'.

Here are excellent tools made in Germany. I have a set of theirs I use for tinkering with electronics.

Wiha is good stuff.

You hardly ever lose by not buying good quality screwdrivers. While I think Snap-on and Matco are overpriced (oh, the heresy!), I have to admit they are darn good and if I used them everyday I'd have to think about it.

Here are screwdrivers tat are as high end quality as you're likely to find. These are watchmakers screwdrivers from Switzerland.

Thank you, friends, for all the input. I will take a close look at the Wiha tools, as it looks like the Swiss watchmaker's screwdrivers are a little out of my class (in price and ability)! Will probably pick up the Kobalt set too just out of curiosity, since it is inexpensive but recommended.

Thanks again!

I just remembered Starrett screwdrivers. Look for Starrett jeweler's screwdrivers on Amazon. I used to use them for gage repair.

I have that set and it seems to be good quality.
I've bought a few different Kobalt tools and they all seem to be as good as Craftsman used to be.
It doesn't hurt that my wife works for Lowes and we get an extra 5% discount also.
