Remington Nimrods!

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Well, Remington just demonstrated a complete and total lack of competence!

My Model 700 was caught up in the recent recall due to trigger issues. Around Christmas 2014 I confirmed that the gun I own was indeed one of the ones impacted by the recall, so I boxed it up to send it in - along with a letter asking Remington to thread the barrel. I was notified that it would be 12 weeks for just the recall work. About 8 weeks in Remington called me to give me a quote on the barrel threading. It was a bit high, but since they already had it, I just said yes.

Well, 20 weeks after sending it in I got a notice this week that it was being shipped back! :D Boy was I excited!!!

Until it arrived. Remington had it almost twice as long as promised, and the nimrods didn't thread the barrel. What complete morons!!!

That stinks. I imagine you have no interest in sending back.

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

I'd call them "numb-rods". I hope you get a refund for the threading job. :x

Jay, I remember we bought our rifles at about the same time, and mine was included in the recall too. After 3 or 4 phone calls and waiting for 5 months to get them to just send me the shipping box, I gave up. I had serious doubts I'd ever see my rifle again, if I sent it in. I understand that it was a large scale recall, but that is just horrible customer service. The last Remington employee I spoke to had the worst "I don't give a $&!#" attitude I've ever seen. I have sworn off all things Remington.

From what I hear the airbag recall might take years to be complete. And, every manufacturer is telling you "NOT" to operate your vehicle until repairs are made. In other words, we warned you not to use it, you did and got hurt, it's all on you.

So, twenty weeks isn't all that long, in perspective.

It's people like that who've made Remington the company it is today.

(I actually capitalized remington. Lower case seems more correct)

This is one fix for the trigger. A few dollars spent and no aggravation.

Or one of these:

There may be more. I searched "Remington 700 trigger" and "Remington 700 trigger fix".

Hi Ted -

Yep, we got these almost at the same time. I actually had a good experience with getting the box; only took about 2 weeks. I just can't believe that after they called me they still flubbed this. This is a firearm, not a vacuum cleaner. Gives one NO CONFIDENCE whatsoever in Remington or its products. I'll remember this when considering future purchases - and due to this, Remington won't be in the running.

IMHO the best way to handle the Remington recall is to replace the factory trigger with one from Timney. that's what I'm going to do.

You should be able to find a good price, even Amazon has them.

That was one of the first upgrades I did on the Rem 700 I inherited from my dad. Excellent trigger for the price.

This thread reminds me that I carry and shoot Glock pistols (Austrian) and the leverguns I hunt with are Rossi R92's (Brazil)...go figure... :)

This thread reminds me of exactly why I purchase vintage & go old school whenever possible.
Preferably items made from 'the greatest generation' on back. 8)

Shhh! Don't let the kids know the wonders of the used gun rack.

I see the youngsters walk into shops right past the used rack and drool at all the new plastic stuff on the wall. Most days I never get that far. My money is spent long before I get half way thru the used stuff.
