YIPPEE WINCHESTER 9410- USE OF SLUGS
Just found myself a Winchester 9410- I can hardly wait to get the paperwork re licensing and permit to acquire sorted out (we have licensing in NSW -Australia) so I can go out and shoot some bunnies.
From reviews I understand this is quite a fun gun!
Anyone any experience using one with slugs?

I heard Australia may ban lever action rifles soon - hope where you are that won't happen.

They won't be banning levers here anytime soon.
The Adler lever 12g got the anti gun mob upset hence the knee jerk statements. Little do they know that there has been a lever 12g around since 1887.....morons. rant over

Re: YIPPEE WINCHESTER 9410- USE OF SLUGS
A .410 lever gun with slugs could be an incredibly great firearm for places where people can't hunt with rifles, except . . .
All the .410 slugs are super light, hollow base slugs to deal with the usually non-removable chokes in .410s.
But if a guy could get rid of the choke and use a well-designed, heavy slug, it could be similar to shooting a rifle in a great caliber.

This manual has several buckshot loads for the .410 and also high velocity "rifle" loads using a single .36 caliber ball (000 buck).
I have loaded some but haven't tried them yet.
They might be particularly useful in a 9410.

I seem to remember someone loading a .360 round ball in a standard wad. There is a lifetime of reloading for .410s if you keep searching. Don't forget, Pack makes a loading tool for them as well.

There s a guy on Shotgun World that has shot a couple of deer with the 9410 using slugs,do a search there and you ll find.I have one of the traditional versions with the tang safety and removable chokes and it is one of my favorite rabbit guns
Re: YIPPEE WINCHESTER 9410- USE OF SLUGS
The Fosters style slugs I played with were very undersized in the .380" neighborhood IIRC and around 90grs.
They didn't shoot very well. (not from a levergun, but a Springfield M6). The Rottweil-Brenneke slugs, while I don't remember the numbers, were larger, heavier, of more stout construction and shot much better. Actual usable accuracy.

Here is another slug option for the hand loader.

A forty caliber round ball works very well in a Winchester 410 red shot wad inserted in a Magtec all brass 410 shell, with a proper amount of WW296 powder and a nitro card over the powder.
I shoot this in my Bond Deringer 45/410 snakeslayer.

Re: YIPPEE WINCHESTER 9410- USE OF SLUGS
My early attempts to make a heavy foster type slug provided only marginal results and were a beast to cast. The 110gr slug by Ballistic Products looks like the best thing out there right now.

Wish they still made them. Looking on Gun Broker, quite a bit out of my price range, especially for a fun gun.

Best alternative these days is the Rossi Rio Grande. I like mine.tman wrote:Wish they still made them. Looking on Gun Broker, quite a bit out of my price range, especially for a fun gun.

What I would like to someday do is open up a RioGrande barrel to nominal .429 with a long .444 chamber - allowing the use of .410 shot OR (in a pinch) .444 ammo...7.62 Precision wrote:A .410 lever gun with slugs could be an incredibly great firearm for places where people can't hunt with rifles, except . . .
