"Risen"
I haven't been to a theater in years. Might have to see this one on the big screen, though.

I think the reason Mel Gibson got his "Passion of the Christ" mostly right was that I think he had the controls. jd45
Re: "Risen"
The trailer I saw on the tube yesterday said that it was true to the Bible. But then they would say that wouldn't they. We'll see.

Seeing the ads, and the other movies referenced, I'll give this one a chance for sure.

Don't get me started on that one. If Gibson had stuck to the Gospels he'd have had a REAL winner, but he added a lot of stuff that came along later, MUCH later than the Gospel accounts. Still, it's a good movie in its way.
As for "Risen", the review I read said it did a great job - and that review wasn't written by folks from hollyweird. Shucks, looks like I deleted it. Anywho, it's a "historical novel" type movie, not a depiction of the Gospel accounts per se, but it reportedly is well done. It's on the "when it comes to town we'll go see it" list. It sounds like it'll also make the "when it comes out on disc we'll buy it" cut as well.

Always puzzled me why Hollywood never had a blockbuster hit with a movie based on Christ's Birth or Death?

Blockbuster, by any definition of the term.
Following a $14.7 million marketing effort, Ben-Hur premiered at Loew's State Theatre in New York City on November 18, 1959. It was the fastest-grossing as well as the highest grossing film of 1959, in the process becoming the second-highest grossing film in history at the time after Gone with the Wind. It won a record 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Wyler), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Heston), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Griffith), and Best Cinematography, Color (Surtees), an accomplishment that was not equaled until Titanic in 1997 and then again by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003. Ben-Hur also won three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture for Stephen Boyd. Today, Ben-Hur is widely considered to be one of the greatest films ever made, and in 1998 the American Film Institute ranked it the 72nd best American film and the 2nd best American epic film in the AFI's 10 Top 10. In 2004, the National Film Preservation Board selected Ben-Hur for preservation by the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for being a "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" motion picture.
Covered (if briefly) both, in a more relatable package.

Re: "Risen"
IF, Hollywood would adhere to what the Biblical account is, it would be worth seeing.
i did NOT see it, but I've spoken to a number of those who have, and they say "Noah", starring Russell Crowe, is way off of what the Biblical account is...
i saw on the news today that a new study shows an unusual lack of "Diversity" in Hollywood...kinda hypocritical of those there...isn't it?

I tend to watch movies I'd rather not, such as "Noah", simply for the ability to discuss them intelligently with people who think hollyweird tells things the way they are. To say that "Noah" was WAY off the Biblical account is an vast understatement.
