Bush's beans factory and bean doctorin'

Post by wecsoger »

As mentioned in another post, took vacation time and was down in the Pigeon Forge area recently. What I did not know until I was talking to a waitress in a restaurant was that Bush Beans factory headquarters was just a short trip up the road. (restaurant Huck Finn's, home of the more than you can eat (American raised) catfish meal - I highly recommend them)

You can look up Bush Beans on the web, they have a full featured website with maps and all. From Pigeon Forge, only about a thirty minute scenic drive.

link here: http://www.bushbeans.com/en_US/visitors-center

And well worth the trip.

One of side the road is the Bush factory which covers several hundred acres(!) of buildings and storage. I was in awe of the size.

You don't get near that. On the other side of the road is a very nice visitor's center with restaurant, museum, theater, gift shop, etc.

No, we didn't meet Jay or Duke. (grin)

Nice movie showing the history of the company. I recommend it.

Museum, although small was nice too. We've come a long way.

Financial Management would not let me buy anything in the store, even though they had every type of bean they canned across the street. Including some I had never seen before.

If you're in the area, go, it's worth it. (visitor canter is free!)

Once we got back from our trip, I grabbed a 16 oz. can of reduced sodium great northern beans.

Sweated about two full tablespoons of finely diced sweet onion, about a half tablespoon of chopped garlic for about five minutes

Once that was done. added almost a cup of finely chopped ham and the beans, a splash of water, and simmered on the stove for an hour.

They were awesome.

"some I know have been with them for over 40 years, good folks!!"

Must be if they have not moved all their job to china.

Honest to gosh, I saw a can of mushrooms in the grocer store that said, "Made in china" on the label.

Discovered them while taking a shortcut to Pigeon Forge a few years ago with the family. We all enjoyed the stop! :D
