Shot my enabler's, er, friend's Marlins today...

Post by Skychief »

In returning his copy of Venturino's 'Shooting Old West Leverguns', my buddy had me shoot a couple of his turn-of-the-century Marlins. An 1893 32/40 and 1894 32/20. :D

Both great rifles made quick work of his field of silhouettes.

I fell hard for his quick handling '94!!! That little 32/20 was a hoot to plink away with.

I see one in my near future with any luck at all. Not sure of which caliber and won't be choosy either. I just have to find a vintage '94 after today. Period.

Thought I'd share with you all.

Best regards, Skychief

Way cool! 8) 8) Always a fun time to shoot with a friend... even better when you can burn THEIR ammo! I have one 1894, and while it's chambered in 45Colt, I re-timed it so it will run the little Cowboy45Special developed for cowboy action by fellow levergunner Adirondak Jack. Sweet little cartridge in a fun little "rifle"... all 17" of it's octagon barrel!

I have an original 1889 in 32-20, and shoot it once a year or so, just because it's cool.

However, I bought a 1980-ish 1894 in 32-20 that I shoot a lot more; it isn't going to be damaged if I shoot hotter loads, and I don't worry I'm going to tear up a family heirloom if I go out in foul weather or whatever.

Both are FUN though...!

I see how people say 'shoot a 45 Colt instead of a 44 Mag - lower pressure and a heavier, larger, bullet' or say the same thing arguing over going from 30-30 to 375 Win, or 444 Marlin to 45-70.

I feel that could be said about 22 WMR going to 32-20.

I have an 1889 rifle with a 2/3 mag in 38-40. It's a great shooter.
I don't have a 94, but a buddy has one in a 15" baby carbine in 38-40 I got to take home and play with for a few days. It was a lot of fun. I got pics of it posted here somewhere.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

I have an 1889 in 44-40 manufactured in 1892, bore is crummy but it shoots really well!!
Also got an old 1894 manufactured in 1908 in 44-40, another good shooter!!
Love those old Marlins :D :D

Really hard to beat an early 1894 in .32-20 for fun, and cheap reloading. Plus they're very accurate if they have a great bore. My favorite caliber!

I'm tempted to bid on that myself! I LOVE 25-20, one of my all time favorites!
