You are quite welcome, Gamekeeper. I recently completed the first accredited Western Novel (1902, Owen Wister) called "The Virginian."
It describes aspects of the Old West far more accurately than most "cowboy" novels I have read, which focus on heroism and gunplay but not the surrounding culture and life on the plains. So I Googled a question concerning food on trail drives and was pleased to find this great site.
