Any of the big names will produce good ammo. LEE will be the most economical and will come with a shellholder too. Most of the dies on my bench are in green boxes but I do have several sets of Lee's too.

Get and start with a Lee Loader. Whole kit will set you back about $20.

Once you learn how to make good ammo, you can get into dies & presses and such.

I would suggest the RCBS Cowboy die set. You get two different diameter expander plugs. There are a couple of advantages to that. Primarily to easier set lead bullets. You can choose which one give yo the amount of neck tension you rifle might prefer,

I have both Lyman and RCBS and prefer the Lyman dies.

I would also suggest purchasing a set from RCBS. Cowboy or regular.
If anything goes wrong, their service is second to none.

Check out Lee's stuff at www.midwayusa.com. You can get their dies there cheaper than you can from Lee Precision directly.

Almost all of my dies come in red boxes. Lee is the best value for the money. :D

45-70 DIES

Post by HEAD0001 »

A lot of it depends on what rifle you are loading it for(determines what type or even if you need to crimp). The Lyman "M Die" will be the best die you ever buy if you get it. This die is infinitely adjustable and does the least amount of brass working. Any good sizing die will work. If you need to crimp, I prefer the taper crimp over the roll crimp, and I like the Redding Taper Crimp Die. Tom.
