Some American and English books read and estimated by a foreigner:

The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway. BTW the first real novel I ever read. I got it from my granddad forty years ago. "'Tis a good one - read it!" I still hear his voice when I see the worn red back of it.

Green Hills of Africa and Twenty-four Short Stories by the same Hemingway. Most of his book are worth reading.

Leaves of Grass by Whitman.

Sonetts by Shakespeare. A highlight of lyrics!

Hunter by J.A.Hunter

Kubla Khan by Coleridge.

The Harry Potter books are great to read.

Bill by Richmal Crompton was a beloved figure in books for lads in the sixties.

Hemingway's "To Have and Have Not" is my favorite novel by Papa. (The Bogart movie bears no resemblance to the novel!)

In person he CAN be as funny as his writing, but usually is not.

Especially when he holds your Grade in his hand and is not as fond of "elaborating" on grades as he is Fish Size...
