OT - The Great Outdoors Gun Shop.....*new pics, video*
As ya'll probably know, I left county public service to be a manager and gunsmith of a new gun shop in a nearby town. The shop is called The Great Outdoors Gun Shop and it is located in Atwood Kansas 67730. We opened on May 1 and our grand opening is on May 23, 24 with Tom Knapp of Benelli performing an exhibition shoot. We have a much larger shop than the previous gun store in town. Today was a busy day with 11 guns sold. I have attached some pics here for your viewing pleasure. We moved into the building on April 1 and what a busy month it has been. All of the wood cabinets, racks and shelving were made by an employee of a sister business. We have Liberty Safes, Owens dog boxes, Bombardier ATV, Benelli, Franchi, Stoeger, Uberti, Swarovski, Ruger, Remington, Henry, Savage, Springfield Armory, Glock, Browning, Bushmaster and many others. For clothing we have Filson and Kings Shadow Camo. I stock mostly Hornady bullets with a few Sierra and Nosler. We are also a distrubutor for Hodgdon Powder.
Fun times ahead.

Congratulations on a fine looking establishment. You made me look up Atwood as I could not recall it at all from my many trips through Kansas. I see now you're north of Colby, northeast from Goodland, southeast from Holyoke, CO and southwest from Norton, all places I'm familiar with. Don't know how I ever overlooked Atwood over the years. I'll try and keep it in mind the next time I'm up in that neck of the woods. Anyway, congratulations. Looks like you've got a nice setup there.

Nothing can beat simply having some good and various inventory. Looks like you got some too. When a guy is in the mood to buy, (at least for me) I don't want to wait for a UPS truck 4 days from now. I'm glad for you guys, I bet this a dream come true.

Nothing like a brand new gun shop!!! Still has that "sterile" look about it.
Post a few more pics 6 months from now with some of the local boys and that "lived in" look. It'll be "just like home".
Congratulations and GOOD LUCK!!!!

Let me know if you pick up a good used Ruger Blackhawk .357 with the 6 1/2" barrel!

ONE PIECE OF ADVICE
Make sure on your displayed new rifles that there be tags or stickers
that browsing customers CAN READ from across the counter. I dont
like to waste a busy store clerk with 3 dozen what is that gun, how much
over and over and over. In TENN the best gun shop I ever visited
had all the rifles out on the sales floor in racks that the customers
could pick them up and examine them. They all had a steel cable
running through the trigger guard but that was much better than
bothering a store clerk endlessly. Gun shop visitors like to browse
and that is impossible if you make the info impossible to see or read.

Congrats! That looks like a heck of a shop. I agree with Bruce - I love shops that have a lot of inventory - and a great variety - and patronize them as much as I can. I know it's not cheap to carry all that, so giving them as much of my business as possible is my way of saying thanks!
Good luck - keep us posted!!!

Thanks guys. When I was planning this shop, I wanted to do several things. I wanted the price and caliber to be seen from the front of the counter, wide variety of firearms, room to put all the stuff and a friendly atmosphere. With the price tags that I have, it is a little hard to see the price but they actually work pretty good. The first three days of business we sold 14 guns and I have orders for several more. Not too bad for a town of 1500. When Scott Carlson had Northwest Arms and Service in Atwood, he said that over 80% of his business came from out of town. I believe it because of all the firearms I sold, only two were from in county. On monday I need to order a bunch of stuff to fill in some gaps.

Not at this time. That is something that we have talked about. If you are looking for something, let me know. Right now, I do have an pre-AE, pre-safety Model 94 on the shelf and a new Uberti Lightning .357 24" bbl.kimwcook wrote:Hey Jengel, the store going to be available by internet?
Within the next week, I need to get some more stuff so that I can get started on my gunsmithing. I will post more pics later of the rest of the shop. The pics that I showed on page 1 were taken by a guy from our local cable provider for a commercial. There is a lot more shop to show you.

That right there is KEY to sales to me. I want to see the price mostly (I know what they are).preventec47 wrote:ONE PIECE OF ADVICE
