Re: Colt Display For The Next Gun Show
Very nice exhibit Shrapnel. I didn't know you had all those Colts. I have only one, a Frontier Six-shooter in .44 WCF with 71/2" bbl. I plan to sell it in the near future. Since it has the nice etched panel clearly visible, I'd like to sell it to the right person. What would you recommend as the appropriate site on which to advertise?
Thanks in advance and you have some very nice guns.
Gary

Bateman think long and hard before you sell it. Prices on those are going up. Especially now that word is out starting price for a new one is around $3400 from the Colt Custom shop.

That's a very nice display Shrapnel.
A question on the Colt shotgun. Do you know if Colt's actually manufactured those themselves or imported them from Europe. Winchester's double shotgun of the period was imported as I understand.
If Colt's actually did make their double shotguns, I wonder about the damascus barrels and whether they were imported as blanks or something.

Re: Colt Display For The Next Gun Show
Don't want to steal Shrapnel's thread (even if I had the guns to do it ), but there may be some misunderstanding about my old revolver. It is an original black powder 1873 Six-Shooter. I don't have gun available to me where I am now, but it was made sometime in the late 1870's or early 1880's as I recall.
So, Bridger they don't make them anymore. They may be making replicas.
Thanks,
Gary

Re: Colt Display For The Next Gun Show
Colt had the barrels made in England. Colt made the receivers in America and had the Damascus barrels made under their control in England. These are true Damascus barrels which are much harder to make and much more durable than their cheaper counterpart “twist steel” barrels.JRD wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 11:19 am That's a very nice display Shrapnel.

Winchester shotguns were entirely imported and not of the same quality of shotgun. Colt’s were of extremely high quality, surpassing American made shotguns such as Parker, L.C. Smith and Ithaca...
Re: Colt Display For The Next Gun Show
Thanks Shrapnel. Do the damascus barrels on your Colt's have any foreign proofs on the flats? I presume the barrels must have been imported as raw blanks by Colt. They likely don't have foreign proofs but I've never thought much on the Colt doubles nor ever seen one in person.
There were certainly business reasons why Colt decided to exit the double shotgun business, but I find it interesting that Colt got in and then out of the American double shotgun market before the real heyday of American doubles. Colt had their hammerless action 1883 and beat Parker there by about 5 years. Is the Colt action on the Anson & Deeley boxlock principle or something unique?
