Filing off Rossi "F" and "S" ??????
Has anyone taken a file to the "F" and "S" stamped into the latest Rossi 1892 rifles. I've removed the safety and replaced with a plug, but the F/S just bugs me!

Before it stood for FIRE and SAFE. Now it stands for FLAIL and STOMP.
Ummm, yeah there's several here that have removed the graffiti off the bolt. Nate Kiowa Jones does it I'm sure.

Take the bolt out and remove the pieces and tig weld up the F and S then dress down and polish and cold blue. If you do a good polish job all the holes and letters are gone and no one will ever know.

Re: Filing off Rossi "F" and "S" ??????
Well, with file in hand, I removed the "F" and "S" on my new Rossi 1892 and then I made a plug out of a Stainless Steel bolt.
I Love It!
I only had to remove a couple thousandths to clean the letters off. Three or four passes with a fine cut file did the trick.
Once it was all assembled I used a wire brush to cut down on the glare and give it a brushed finish.

FWIW, when I make safety replacement plugs for a Rossi Model 92, I make sure the head is large enough to cover the detent ball recess' around the bolt's safety hole edge, and simply remove the colored paint from the "F" & "S"" stampings so that they're hard to notice.

Looks good. The cap I made also covers the detent holes. But the letters drove me nuts!
And it was a VERY simple issue to remove them. Even on a blued gun, you could reblue the area or simply high polish the whole top of the bolt.
Lots of options.

I do weld some gun parts but I'm not too crazy about welding on pressure parts like the bolt. Particularly, there on the 92 bolt that close to the locking bolts.
This is my flush plug for the stainless gun. It's not welded but screwed in tight, peened then ground flush and polished. I left the "F" and "S" so a person can still tell this started as a safety type bolt. They can be ground off but it will change the profile of the bolt. Seen from the side the front of the bolt will be noticeably higher.

Re: Filing off Rossi "F" and "S" ??????
Nate, nice work!
But filing the letters off is absolutely not noticeable as to the contour of the bolt. Filing the letters off would make a very nice modification great.
BTW, the only area that needs to be concerned about heat effect from welding is the area in front of the locking bolts. There is zero pressure behind the buttresses. With "Heat Stop Paste" and a good TIG operator, you could hold the bolt in your hand while welding the hole shut. But then the modification would not be reversible.
With the plug, it could be removed and "F" and "S" restamped.
Thanks for all you do for us Rossi nuts! It's appreciated.

Re: Filing off Rossi "F" and "S" ??????
The problem is that the gun came with a safety. Once it is removed the lawyers will have a field day if anyone is injured with that gun. It no longer becomes an 'accident'. It then becomes the consequence of a deliberate act to circumvent the safety.
I am not fond of the safeties either and normally don't use them. Neither am I so up tight that I can not just ignore them. Those who can't don't need a file they need a tranquilizer.

That is why I like modifications such as this to be reversible.
Keep the old parts in your pocket and God forbid something untold should happen you can quickly switch back the original parts and you are scott free!..........Maybe a patch-box on the side of the butt stock........

You also could have gotten the aperture sight for that hole from Stevezgunz; the FS then stands for fabulous sight.

Looks sharp. Watch out though SIXGUN may want to buy it!
