Marlin 1895 cb with treebone buttstock (photo)

Post by gary rice »

Image the photo's doesnt do this justice at all, i screwed it up somehow but ill concentrate and take a much better one by the end of the week and try and post. seems the lighting is poor. anyway, this is a buttstock i just completed last week that i bought from treebone carving in extra fancy walnut and it's two realatives, my ruger bisley in 45 lc and super blackhawk. i think i also screwed up when i didnt order a matching forearm but i re-stained the factory piece a little darker to at least semi match. i'll post a better pic by the end of the week, in sunlight nest time.

Nice collection Gary. If you take it outside and let the sunlight hit the stock the picture will reveal the grain.

im a lousy picture taker or my camera is lousy, perhaps both as this is the best i could come up with even in the sunlight. the photo absolutely doesnt do it justice. i didnt buy a matching forearm but i played with it with stain and got a pretty close match. lol, im actually pretty proud of my work, it's a shame i cant show it off properly.

How much carving did you have to do to get it to fit? I've got a couple of stocks I need to pickup and need some information as to who to get it from.

It took me about 4 hours to seat the buttstock to the action and another 2 or 3 weeks with what free time i had to fit the buttplate, sand and modify the rest down. someone more handy working with wood would do it much quicker im sure. oh, and that included glass bedding the tangs and buttplate.

Here's something to try. The background is VERY light - which is probably causing your camera to compensate. Try photographing it with a darker background. The shadow there is solid black - indicating that the light is too bright for the camera to handle well. Photographing it in indirect sunlight would help too, probably.

Nice looking rifle.

Treebone did a set for my 1895 LTD-V a couple of years back. I have been tinkering with mine for some time and just added a tang sight to mine. I am getting my rifle ready for some long range SASS side matches. I just posted this on the rugerforum today.

The stock and forend are from Treebone as well as the butt plate. He does a great job doesn't he.

That really is nice. Thanks for taking the time to get a good photo.

Taking good photos can be frustrating, I know (if you've seen some of mine you've had a good laugh I'm sure...). Hang in there. It is just another skill that can be learned.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Thanks Gary! Your rifle looks great too. I am hoping to do up another rifle with Treebone's wood. Why mess with perfection right?

Cool! That's a nice piece of wood. I've been meaning to get some new stocks from Treebone for my plain jane 94 ranger & give it to my boy.

I saved a copy and used one of the photo editing programs (don't recall which offhand DOH!) to adjust the brightness. I think I left the contrast alone.

No problem, glad to help!
