S&W .350 Legend

Post by Oldncrusty »

Stopped by one of my locals today and was surprised to see a huge S&W revolver in .350 Legend. $1500. I don't follow the hand cannon market, but that was a new one on me. If anyone is looking for one I can give you a steer. No BS.

At that price I think you ought to buy three or four of them.....

Ballistics from the revolver ? One article cites 1,500 fps. with win. factory 170 gr.

Found this from a bfr.....

The 350 just does nothing for me, I wouldn't spend the money on an upper, bolt gun or revolver in 350 .

One detraction mentioned often is the use of moon-clips. If I ever got one, I doubt I would use the clips if it would headspace and fire reliably without them. I have several revolvers chambered in self-loading cartridges that fire adequately without the clips.

Or one Colt SAA.

Thanks for the info. I knew next to nothing of the cartridge. I do have an itch for a SS handheld. No one stocks them in my area. Need to do some windows shopping.

I would think 357 Max would be a better revolver cartridge with the rim headspacing, ability to use magnum and special, and roll crimped bullets. These guns are too big for my taste but a 445 (stretched 44) could be useful for the same reasons.

An upper might be of interest if found at fire sale prices. Otherwise, not needed at all.

I actually would prefer a 350 M4 ish over the same in 223. Bigger hole, more wallop out to about 200. I still rather hunt with almost anything other than an AR

Why would you pay $1500 for that when for the same money you could buy a .460 or .500? They both do anything a .350 does and do it better.

Ammo costs, lower recoil, shootability. Same reason people buy 357 over a 44, or a 6.5 Creedmoor over a 338

You might be surprised. I have a 6.5 inch 500 and it is the less seen one that looks like a scaled up 29. I for playing around I cast a Lee 440 grain and use 15 grain charge of unique for 1100fps. I use an 18 grain charge of unique with a 275 grain Barnes XPB at 1890 fps and although you might not believe it, the recoil is less than my 3 inch SW 29 with 300 grain factory loads or my 6.5 inch SW 29 with 21 grains of 2400 with a 250 grain cast. ( The Elmer Keith load). So, ammo costs, I'll give you shootability and lower recoil, not in my mind. By the way, I am not a 6.5 Creedmore fan either. I will not own or use a centerfire rifle than is less than .308 diameter. I do hunt a bunch with a 338 WM though.
