They just had their evening repast, had a good 15 minute romp out in the yard and are now will crash for a couple hours.

Boy John you got that right! The little s....'s
Have foiled my efforts again! Popeye climbed a gate and got out of the puppy pen, Turq found a go-around to my tying the gate shut. I had to take the block I was using for a gate stop away so they can't stand on it and I put a peice of tubing on the para cord tie. I'm guessing a few more days and I'll have to admit defeat and give them free range in the whole yard.

We are getting rain here and since they wouldn't stay in the pen I let them have their fun in the yard. They ran and played in the rain for about an hour just having a grand ol time! Now they are tired and WET!

I bought some stuff to spray on cords which was supposed to taste so bad that a puppy would stop chewing. It never worked for my puppies. Teething is too strong of a force to stop at a bad taste. One puppy chewed through a set of 4 gauge jump start cables.
All I can say is good luck.

Aunt Claro is starting to tolerate the puppies. She never really wanted anything to do with the other litters either. Just a crabby ol aunt- there is one in every family I guess.

Oh the look on Turq's face was priceless!
He just learned a very valuable lesson-
Don't pick up and chew on toads! He had what I thought was a stone when he spit it out then when he started shaking his head and locking his chops did I get up close to see it was a toad. He won't do that again!

Years ago when I kept snakes my Lady ( wish I could have cloned her!) was perfectly fine with snakes, my Burmese python would take a gentle coil around her and we would go for a walk. The looks we would get !
Those snattle rakes were a different story in Colorado, thankfully we never ran into any while hunting although I killed a few with a breaker bar- no holes in the hides! :D

Will, y'all are killin' me. It is so hot here -- 105 105 106 105 106 107 for the next six, I'd hate to put a sweet, innocent pooper through this torture just starting out. I frankly don't know if it will ever cool off. Night-time lows are in the upper 70s. Fitful sleeping weather.

Waffles for breakfast, I let the puppies lick my plate( not something I normally allow)

NOTE TO SELF
Puppies really really REALLY like maple syrup.
However, they are now on a sugar rush- absolutely hyper, doing full speed zoomies, chasing each other around the yard.

Back from the vet, last of the DHPPL van's and their 1st Lyme vax.
Of course someone(Turq) had to pee on the floor and then someone ( Turq again) had to take a stinky.

Oh trust me, he left a STINK alright! As dad used to say ' that would knock a buzzard off a manure spreader'

The vax's they got yesterday were enough to slow them down, they crashed early and hard enough they didn't want to go out last night.

Just broke out my air rifle and did a little shooting around the puppies.
I have a 3/4 sized steel deer that a buddy of mine made when they got their new water jet machine and made it as a test piece. I installed an aluminum ringer plate for pellets.Anyhow the puppies are running around kind of behind me when I shot this first time. Not a flinch that I could see.
I kept shooting a few more pellets and getting them excited as we walked up to check my group. Sage seemed to be more interested so I really encouraged her to see the ringer. She showed interest in the report of the gun as I kept shooting.

That's good news :D I have helped a friend get his puppy used to gun fire when he only had a 12 gauge, always good to see a pup get excided but not frightened. I keep an old .6mm short blank starting revolver for such occasions and I stand well away for the first few shots. I can see an air rifle being a better choice.

Frankly I was bored, looming thunderstorms today, too hot & humid to bow hunt not that I ever hunt this early unless it's much cooler.

I always start with an air rifle, the pup gets the look of a long gun without the noise of a report. Then I move to a 22 with CB shorts then to standard velocity up to a shotgun at a distance while slowly getting closer to the shooter.

Yesterday we had some real boomer thunderstorms, they didn't pay any attention to it, after the worst moved off I put them out and they played in the rain long enough to get thoroughly soaked!

Grizz, my Lady was 96 lbs of pure huntress and one day I was shooting my 338 and each shot she would creep closer. Finally she was parallel to the muzzle. I touched off, she didn't move but I know she FELT the muzzle blast- she didn't creep after that !

I remember breaking my horses to gun-fire... that can be exciting proposition! I first used blanks in my SAA and I stood with them loose behind my in the pasture. (With a carrot in my back pocket). The first time, they both bolted for the adjoining pasture. They'd caught scent of the carrot before I'd fired, and their single-mindedness brought them back in search of their treat. After about the 5th shot, they stayed close enough that each of them were able to grab the carrot. I then saddled and haltered them and held their lead ropes while I fired. After several more shots, I began firing over the top of the saddle. When they quit flinching from that, I hauled my scared carcass up in the saddle. That can be intimidating. After they took to walking around while I fired, we started trotting and finally shooting at balloons at a run. Yes, first you need to teach them balloons tied to a pole aren't going to eat them! When asked if I'd move from the ranks of our local Sheriff's reserve force to the posse, I was completing prepared. Myself and both horses passed the qualifying course the first time out. Better'n some of the other posse members!

Mine’s broken. He was great around guns until some kids set off a tannerite at the range when he was about six months old. Now thunder, fireworks, popping packing bubble plastic, even a daisy single pump.
There’s something about that six month old age on a dog. If something scares them it’s stuck there. I fell on a six month old pup and every time from that point forward if I stumbled and grunted she would instantly pee and poop. She went with the ex.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Yes I've seen that too.

I remember if you cussed around my Dixie she would go hide. It didn't matter the tone or volume but any of the 7 words you can't say on TV she would go hide.

I normally don't go crazy shooting around the pups until I know I can get, hold their attention and they are reasonably returning on COME command.

Got home today from work and Turq is on the WRONG side of the gate! Huh, seems he has learned to climb up & over...little stinker!
So off to the shop, how am I going to foil him this time...
Light bulb sparked to 150 watts- a roller!
So I cut 2 pieces of aluminum angle to 1.5" , drilled a 1/4" hole on one side, 2 countersunk holes on the opposite side, found a hunk of 2" pvc pipe. 1.375 ID.
Now where is my fly cutter? On the drill press stand, where it's supposed to be! Couple fine tunings and some 1x pine has been cut to press fit the pipe. Now to dig up some bolts. Carriage bolts will do.
Back to the house, center the roller L to R, predrill the screws into the oak gate and its installed.

Ugh, these boys!

Raining this morning, normally they don't pay it any heed but this morning I guess they didn't want to go do their thing...
I walked Claro and Parker while the three stooges were in the pen, bring them all in .
Feeding the puppies in their respective crates and as I was getting empty bowls its heavy and warm! Ugh, Popeye filled his dish with pee!

Mop out the crate, wash out the bowl, start the coffee and I go to get my day started by reading a gun magazine...

Come back down , flashlight in hand to check for puddles/ piles hey great alls dry until I get to the couch! It appears that one of em stood with front feet on the arm rest and let fly! I know it wasn't Sage, Popeye could need to go that much again so it has to be Turq! And wouldn't ya know it, he has been trying to stay small and away from the action... Guilty!

Trust me, it's frustrating that these boys can't get it figured out at 4 months old. However I believe the boys just take a little longer to get it.
Of course I have never had to deal with 3 puppies at one time this long before- it's different!

Ya gotta have a sense of humor about it!

I put them back out, poured my second cup of coffee and im watching them through the door and Turq stands up on his hind legs and pulls down the door handle and let's himself in the house! Time to keep that door locked!

Are they watching you clean up? Someone 'splained to me that if the pup sees you clean up his mess he thinks that's where he is supposed to go. Worked for us . . .
