Varner tang sights?
Was just surveying what's out there these days in "traditional" tang sights -- the basics, not the big Soule Verniers.
Poking around at Dixie Gun Works, they had the usual Lymans and Marbles, but also Varners -- and for less money. I hadn't heard of these guys. Anyone use this make on a lever gun?

Re: Varner tang sights?
I just looked on Midway and they have Marbles tang sights for US $119.00. If I was buying, I would stick with the proven tried and true Marbles, especially since there is only $20.00 between the two.

Ray, I get that, but these are supposedly made in USA. Just wonder if they are any good. I usually go with Marbles. Poor old Lyman doesn't seem to know if it wants to be in business anymore.

Bill, I never heard of Varner tang sights before, so I Googled them. they look to be well made, but the Midway reviews did not offer much encouragement as it seems you need a wrench to adjust windage. The Marble's sights are also genuine USA made, and windage is adjustable with the turn of a windage knob. Go with the Marble's! I did!

Re: Varner tang sights?
I'd heard of Varner, but the Varner sights I'm familiar with are likely a completely different company than the one using their name today! Many decades ago the Varner sights sold were micrometer adjustment for windage and elevation, and were very unique looking. Had a large dial on the left side like the combination dial on a safe to elevate the aperture, and a smaller dial for windage with micrometer scale to read the adjustment.
Today those old Varner sights are extremely rare, and almost impossible to find. I bought one for a Stevens single shot rifle last fall, simply because I wanted one. Would rather the base was for a Ballard or Remington, as I could use those on my old rifles.

Re: Varner tang sights?
Another thing to consider if you have a new Miroku Winchester is that they now have a tang safety and Marbles makes a short mount version that will work with it while the old style won't.

Steve, this will be fitted to an Uberti 76 -- no tang safety foolishness to worry about, thank gosh.
