Savage 29B

Post by Pat C »

My think lately has been .22 rifles ,recently picked up anouther Savage 29B for cheap $155 . Had a broken piece out of stock and some surface oxidation. In process detailing cleaning that.

Repaired the stock by making a flat cut with biscuit mortise.
Grafted a matching grain piece using Tightbond extreme wood glue . Hand shaped and sanded to blend. Little stain, oil, shellac to blend finish .

Chamber has some dry fire damage I need to iron out and polish. Hope to be shooting soon.

What a worthy project! Did the Savages in those days have barrels with the reputation for accuracy that the modern Savages do?

Haven't shot this one yet but my early Savage 29 is a tack driver. Both rifles have mirror perfect bores.

Pat, until you showed the picture of the unfinished part I had no idea where you had done the repair. Nice Job!

Thanks ,my pictures loaded wrong sequence. With a perfectly flat milled surface and Tighbond glue you can make a lamination quality joint.I added the biscuit joint for extra strength.

She came to life Friday, shot two 10 shot groups at 20 yards.
These 29's are accurate shooters consider it success. Also had to swage chamber to remove FP ding from its former life.
Inside the stock has a relief cut I had to make . Luckily a member Sav22 on Rimfire central sent me pictures so I knew what it looked like

Nice job and a save of a great rifle.
