That pretty much covers a lot of territory.

I really like .44 spls and .45 Colts. I probably use 4 of them more often than the rest; a 5 1/2" Bisley and a 5 1/2" Colt NF in .44 spl and a blued Smith Mountain Gun and a 5 1/2" FA m97 in .45 Colt. If it came down to being able to keep only one of all my handguns, rifles and shotguns, I would probably keep the FA model 97. It's dimensionally smaller than a SAA and as strong as a Ruger BH. It's a remarkable gun.

I have or have had one or more of each of those. The single-six (convertible) came to me as payment for doing a tuneup on neighbor's car, left in a trade for a Marlin 336 in .30-30. I got the .357 3-screw in a purchase off a co-worker. It left to fund my Wife's 2nd Gen SAA. The Rossi .357 mdl 65 (92 clone)was my 1st CAS rifle, then became my wife's when I got an Uberti '73 in 45 Colt. It's still in the safe and see's the occasional cowboy shoot.

Each served at least one purpose as they passed thru my hands, one was as a step in my firearms education, another as a tool in the safe enjoyment of shooting as sport, informally and as part of formalized competition.

The gun that I shoot and enjoy the most isthis Second Gen Colt in .45 Colt. I probably put over 3000 rounds through it in 2023.

Old Savage, I have a Smith 24-3 like yours but I put a taller front sight on mine. I couldn't get the rear sight low enough despite cutting down the blade. It's much better now.

Hmmmm it seems the rifle I’ve been grabbing the most is this little Mannlicher Schoenauer MC in 6.5x54 MS .

The shotgun I use the most in competition be it trap sporting or the ring is a rather nice circa 1937 Parker VHE 12 gauge Trap 1 1/2 frame with factory original 32” vent rib barrels , single selective trigger , beavertail forend and Monte Carlo stock .

And a pair I truely enjoy shooting sporting clays in their class as well as a tower shoot or two each year . A Parker DH 8 gauge 6 frame 34” barreled gun that was made pretty much at the end of the 8 gauge era .

Along with a rather nice Parker DH 10 gauge 3 frame 32” that was made about the time the 8 were deemed illegal for waterfowl . These two pics are both DH 8 and 10 after a recent tower shoot.

Is anyone else as fascinated as I am that some people still use an 8 gauge shotgun?

It’s from Tom Armbrust’s book on loading for 4 and 8 gauge guns . For clays and tower shoots I use his suggested 1 1/2 ounces of shot pushed with I think it’s 31 grains of Clays . I have loaded some with 1 3/4 ounces pushed by Universal Clays or International Clays . The 1 3/4 ounce data is what I use for buckshot , punkin ball and conical slug .

The actual data I use for pretty much all of my 8 gauge loads . As I said before my buck/ball/slug loads are adapted from the 1 3/4 ounce load data .
