Been over this bridge (Louisville Ohio River) many times ...

They rescued the driver, but I have to wonder if they got the both the trailer AND the truck back up on the bridge. Hanging just by the pin hitch...?

More on the rescue...

.... I'd have soiled my drawers for sure ....!

At that point you need Superman flying up to push it back onto the bridge deck!

I didn't see how/if they actually rescued the trailer and tractor.

I would guess it would take a rather huge crane or winch.

Thanks - I was looking at the wrong video.

I'm amazed that the tractor didn't fall away; wouldn't the only thing holding it be the king pin...??? I'd think the twisting and stress put on it with a dangling semitractor would have been too much to handle. Yikes...!

The hitch pin is a chunk of steel about 3" in diameter, the floor plate of the trailer is actually the weak link. Since that tractor was only a 6 wheel day cab it probably weighs between 12-13,000 lbs, whereas my road tractor weight 19,600 empty, and more like 23,000 with fuel & my stuff... Since the only thing holding the whole rig up was the top of the trailer against the "V" of the bridge supports, the rescuers luck was that there was little to no wind that day.
