New member sign up issues?

Guess these guy are just not looking in the right place...

I got a new tablet and I have to check the remember me before I log in- for some reason it forgets me when I shut the tablet off.

Anyone posting for the first time has to be approved. GK is our primary "spam bot zapper"; I'll catch some when logging on at night when John has hopefully turned in for the night (since he is +6 hours ahead of me!). Funny though - I used to get a couple/few a week, but lately (as in since late last year) I haven't had to approve a one. Just figured GK was getting them all!

Some of them said they've been waiting a very long time to be "approved", while others seem unable to sign up even.

No YK there has been a change in how spammers are zapped, I haven't seen a new spammer for ages they must get zapped automatically now.
There hasn't been a new member since 6 December 2022 this is around when the change happened. I have only approved posts from members who joined before then but haven't posted till now.

I have sent a PM to Andy to make him aware of the problem. I will also PM Paul.

I think you need a different email to what you used when you first joined but you could have fun doing that...

Great idea, but I tried to logout, and then do a search for the forum and signup using my other email account. But the site recognizes my IP address and tries to let me login. I can't even find a place to signup as it wont show it when it recognizes your IP address.

Seems like fixing this should be a priority if the site doesn't want to eventually fade away!

No reply yet from Andy and perhaps Paul is very busy at the moment so I have sent a PM to David explaining the problem.

I have just noticed that on the moderator log that the list of inactive users that are now deleted automatically stopped in 2022 so it looks like spammers and new members are both blocked.

Well something has certainly happened I have had about 12 spammers trying to sign on I have deleted some but not too sure yet who is a spammer or a genuine shooter.
It would be helpful if anyone trying to join included something gun related ie hobby or something as spammers never do. I have activated an account for someone called 1895gunner does anyone know someone with this handle

Someone attempting to join that has no real interest in the topics we discuss, but rather, is usually running a scam, pushing porn, or pills, or the like.

Guys, I'm not sure why they're having problems signing up. There IS a requirement for an admin to sign off on new accounts to keep the spam down to a dull roar. You can have them send an email to webservant@sixshootercommunity dot com and I'll be glad to help them get up and running.

Ah okay. Thanks. I'm pretty interested... enough that I have my own cast bullet website, bulletmatch.com. It's about all I do with my free time, researching cartridges and bullets and working on the site. (Not counting I have a bad bass fishing habit.) It's really a labor of love. I started out because I was trying to work up load data for bullets that didn't have any data, and I was asking on forums for measurements. Then when I started learning programming, I decided to go for it.

Frank Barnes is probably my major influence, I have read nearly all of 3 different COTWs. I really like his writing style, especially when he says something to the effect of "cartridge x ain't big enough for anything but sparrows or rats at close range, nevertheless it was popular."

I had been trying to join here a while because a lot of times when researching leverguns or bullets I'd come across posts here and found lots of interesting information. Leverguns and single actions are my passions when it comes to guns, though I do enjoy shooting clays (right not its with an 870). I once hit 65 straight of 65. Proud of that one. I'd love to get something a bit older though, maybe a SxS, maybe a model 12, not sure yet what I want.

I'm an administrator on a hotrod forum and we have the site setup to show me any possible spammers who I've previously deleted. They all have to go through my approval first, but it's much easier when their IP address shows me it's the same person just using a new name.
I chuckle when I see some person trying to sign up and in their profile they already have a link to something. Anybody puts a link in their profile as a new user gets axed before they can post it on the site.
