.222 Remington. At one time, available virtually anywhere. Now the clerks ask, "Don't you mean .223 ?

Re: "Obsolete Calibers"
As far as using and or hunting goes , I have used the 218 Bee , 25-20 , 219 Zipper , 25-36 Marlin , 32-20 , 32-40 , 32 Special , 33 WCF , 356 WIN , 375 WIN , 38-56 , 40-65 , 40-82 and 32 Long Colt .
Of those the only ones I "still" use would be the 32-20 , 32 Special , 32 Long Colt , 375 and 38-56 . To be honest after dealing with an overabundance of this stuff at one time I frankly got tired of it !
So now the most of my lever action work is done with the 375 WIN , 444 and 45-70 . Although I still have rifles for the 38-56 ,32-20 , 32 Special and the 32 Long Colt .
I suppose it's like anything else , after awhile one gets tired of it and wants something different or less troublesome .
While I did enjoy getting those old guns to shoot with my home cast bullets and handloads I find it far more fun now to just work with a couple calibers rather then a couple DOZEN !
This change has actually brought me back to the high velocity jacketed rounds in nice bolt actions and Ruger #1's .
I was shooting a friends custon Ruger #1V in 22BR last month and shot a nice 5 shot one hole group at 100 yards and that has me intrested in getting a nice Ruger #1V in 22PPC or 6mm PPC just to shoot paper again .
