Trying to resize all the photos I took and Photobucket is acquiring a few uncomplimentary nicknames. I'd rather SHOW you than just tell you. I was mildly surprised by the rifles and very pleased with the shotguns. The photos tell a better story than I can.Old Savage wrote:And what guns did you shoot?

It was great to meet everyone today and I really enjoyed the visit (and the shooting). Thanks to Joe and Ricky for putting together this shoot. I haven't got to get out in a while, and it was just what I needed!

Sure wish it had been the weekend before, or after. I work every other weekend. Sounds as if everyone had a great time.

We examined two Henry .30-30's and two shotguns.
I'm not much of a shot-gunner if there's not a Remington 870 and a running hog involved, so I opted not to examine those arms. They were nice looking shotguns though, one SxS and the other was an OU. Lovely wood, checkered, and attactive engraving on the actions. I just didn't feel qualified to comment on their handling or performance.
I did take several long looks at the .30-30s and fired about a dozen shots through each of them. I'll call them "The Black One" and "The Gold One." Here's a couple of photos:
Both were side eject levers, with I believe 20" barrels and loading tubes. The Gold One has a full length octagon barrel. The Black One is wearing XS sights, a ghost-ring rear and a white-line front blade, and the Gold One has a V-notched rear leaf and a brass bead on the front blade. Black One had some very nice wood.
At the bottom of the photo with the Gold One, you can see the engraved actions of the shotguns.
We spent some time like you might with any new gun trying to figure out the sights on the .30-30s, but I thought both guns shot well, and had smooth actions. I thought the triggers were a bit heavy but no one else seemed to notice.
We sent rounds down-range at 50 and 100 yards and once we got the sight thing figured out they seemed like they could be handy little shooters. They shot pretty much like levergund with iron sights. I thought the Black One handled well, went into the shoulder easy, and sighted quickly. The Gold One was notably heavier because of the octagon barrel, but once in the off-hand it shot well. Don't know that I'd like to carry it all day.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Count me in that category, burned out with The Peoples Demokratik Republik of Hawaii. Maybe I can retire there somewhere along the coast, island boy gotta be near the ocean. Very impressed with hospitality of the peoples of the Great Republic of Texas.Base Pin Maker wrote:There are Texans and those who wish they were!
