OT - I'm man enough to admit...

Post by Ysabel Kid »

... I got beat up by my 11-pound, declawed cat!

Okay, since I've already started the self-humiliation, I might as well finish the story. I like to wrestle and rough-house with my kids. Same with the pets - we are always playing and goofing around. The cat we got last year has grown a lot, and is now an adolesent - about 8 months old. He is full of pee and vinegar! He likes to jump up on my desk (he's on it now as I type this) and either nap while I work - or fight. He often initiates the combat!

So Tuesday I was here and he started his match, and I'm boxing with the little fellow, and wham! He clocks me right in the left eye. I must be getting old and slow. Dropped me off my chair and to my knees, clutching my injured eye. Couldn't see a darn thing as both were tearing up. The cat is looking at me with his head cocked as if to say, "hey, I'm not done messing with you!".

Well, the jab broke a lot of blood vessels in my eye, and it started to swell. You'd think i was hit by Mike Tyson. Crusted over that night and yesterday I actually went to the optomotist my wife uses. Sure enough, it is badly bruised. She dilated it and put some eye drops in it, but it still hurts like hell. I can't blame the cat though, as I was a willing participant to our boxing match, and he just proved he's faster than I am!

Now, I know some of you fellows would have a rather abrupt and permanent answer to this "insult", but that's not going to happen.

Oh well, done embarassing myself for the day...

YK,
In my many matches with my cats and a feral, I've never got a black eye ..... but I've bled and have the scars to prove it.

Hang in there, you'll heal. Just remember ...... wear safety glasses

We had a miniature Boston Bull Terrier that bit my grandmother's thumb off at the first joint - I tried to deal with it and didn't come out well. :( BUT, that is not getting whipped by a cat. Hope your self image survives. :D

When I was a kid I taught a cat to box. When the cat grew up, it wasn't worth a darn as a pet. While it was cute for a little while, it proved a mistake in the long run. Teach them to attack you, and they will attack you as long as they live and at times you don't want to be attacked. It will cease to become play and become set in the cat's personality.

Ouch! Dang it - I could stop my eyes from rolling, and now it hurts even more!!!

Thanks for the sympathy guys. This is the double-edged sword - one of the reasons I appreciate cats is that they are never completely domesticated...

My wife is owned by a polydactyl cat named Zeta though the cat actually is supposed to belong to my step-daughter. The mits on this cat are enormous since each of her four paws has six toes. Zeta is the sixth letter of the Greek alphabet even though the numerical value of zeta is 7 :? Anyways, that's how she came by her name.

She and my ten pound dachshund will go at each other on occasion. Her favorite time is when she's perched atop one of the arms of our couch and he trots past below her. She'll reach out and pop him across the top of the head. Funny to watch. :)

YK, you've had this cat how long? Haven't you learned that even a slow cat reacts much faster that a quick human. If they want ya, they're gonna get ya. Got the scars to prove it. Of course, I've never declawed any of mine, so playing with them usually ends in them drawing a bit of blood.

My cat (still fully-clawed) tagged me in the eye once. My vision got blurry immediately, and I immediately started worrying, since I was unemployed with no insurance etc. I naturally pictured my cornea ripped off or something; I looked in the mirror and saw my eye full of blood. I popped out my contact lens and could still see out of that eye. The relief was terrific! Turns out the cat just caught my eyelid with a claw. We weren't even fighting! (or so I thought...)

We had a female cat called CrabBait , dainty pretty tourtoiuse shell part persian furball .Nastiest , most foul tempered b!$*h you'd ever meet saw her rip a dogs nose in 2 one day . One night when she was 7 years old she settled in for a cuddle on my wifes lap , Mandy reached across to stroke her fur - CrabBait spun around bit completly through her left hand and raked her claws down her forearm . The wounds required antibiotics , tenanus injections a few stitches and took near a month to heal . The cat spent the last 10 years of her life appologising and ended up a real lap cat for her last 2 years . More than a few times she clawed strangers hamstrings as they tresspassed shortcutting through our property to get to a shopping centre we used to live behind

Really miss her , the new cats a royal pain in the proverbial , all nice and smooches

They DO have their limits, though. My neighbor let his Boston out to potty the same time I let my Border collie out. Little dog bluff charged us, talking smack, and Boomer had a hole ripped in his back before I could do anything. Flung him halfway back to where he came from!

BTW, I realise the above post might have been misconstrued; the little dog and I are actually buddies, when I'm at his house.
