OT: Florida trip

Post by 3leggedturtle »

Doc and Rusty thanks for tips , enjoyed the beaches by Bradenton. Enyoed looking at the strings there, also forgot how nice and rustfree the older trucks and vans are. Headed over to Stuart and also walked the beaches by Jupiter, lots of shells and Portguese Man-O-War were on shore. GF really liked it. Drove to New Smyrna and Daytona beaches on the way home. Was a nce trip but did 3880 miles from Dec 31st to Jan 7th was just too much driving for the small amount of time on beach. Sure left me wiped out, and going from 75F and sunny to -6 and cold dark windy didnt help either.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I'm going to SW Florida for a couple of weeks again - myself, with my Green-eyed monster & our pooch of course.
We're gonna take a plane, since I don't feel like doing all that driving down/back from/to New England, either.

My shooting pard's gonna pick us up at the Ft.Myers airport in two weeks, put us up, and let us use one of his vehicles if we want.

He said he'll wait for me, to check out some big gun dealer in Tampa............

That'll give us max beach time.

[Talk about "beached whales" ! ;)  ]

3Leggedturtle,
I am glad you had a good trip. 3800 miles in a week is too much driving.

A big gun dealer in Tampa??? Fill me in.
If you're talking about Shoot Straight, remember it's owned by an Arab who isn't a citizen.

Always remember Ft. Myers is pronounced "Ft. Misery." Take it from someone who was raised there.

If you're going to be there though, don't miss Thomas Edison's winter home. It's a great tour. The last time I was there they still had several light bulbs Tom himself had built. Made with bamboo elements these bulbs have been burning for years.
