ACCOKEEK, Md. — Prince George's County fire officials have put out a blaze at a firearms plant.
Officials say they received calls about the fire at the Beretta USA Inc. plant in Accokeek early Monday. They say flames started in a building attached to the main plant. The fire extended to the roof of the main building, causing part of the roof to collapse.
No one was injured.
Hazmat crews also responded because officials say there are chemical products at the plant that are used to make firearms.
Officials are investigating what caused the fire. Damage is estimated at $250,000.

Re: OT - Fire at Beretta
Saw this earlier on another forum. I will be interested in finding out what caused it.

This is a bit of fear-mongering, if you ask me:
"Hazmat crews also responded because officials say there are chemical products at the plant that are used to make firearms."
There are a couple different ways to read the sentence; is the fact that firearms are made at the plant supposed to be somehow more hazardous than just a plain ol' fire? What did fire crews do in the days before "Hazmat" became so scary?

They are probably referring to the machining coolant and plastic grips... That's what FDs do nowadays, roll HAZMAT to every industrial fire.
