That little 218 BEE thing

Post by Wind »

Hey ya'll. Awhile back saw some posts on the relative power of cartridges, including the 218 BEE. This little guy scoots!! There were always a couple of old timers shooting at a range I frequented, and they would always bait me into shooting something, usually at very long range, they had set out in case I showed up. On this particular day I got there before they had time to get something way out there. When I showed up with my Winchester 65/92 hybrid, they inquired about the possibility of hitting their flipper target at 100 yards with iron sights. I of course said "sure" and took the shot!! Ol' Dan looked over at me and said "I think you put a hole in it". I said "no way, it's just a dinky 45 grain hollow point". Well thanks to AmBraCol, here are the pictures. I was shooting the 45 grainer over 11.8 grains of 2400. The plate was not quite a quarter inch thick. I bought Ol' Dan a new flipper set-up, and kept this one. There is a second hit on the plate, a lead .357 bullet he shot just after my shot. For what it's worth, and to practice with the picture thing... "Shakin' it here boss". Wind

I did that with my .222 once. Oops!

I love the .218, I've had several but for some dopey reason I keep trading them off.

The only gun I've owned that I later sold was a Browning Grade One 65 ... the copy of the Winchester 65. I still hate that I sold it off. I loved that gun. I need an original someday or the Marlin in Bee perhaps.

Speed, not size is what drills holes in steel. I too, like the 218 Bee. Regulars here know I call it my "Cat Rifle" :D
