New 1886 Browning is on the way!

Post by SJPrice »

Hooray! I decided a while back I needed to get an 1886 Browning High Grade Rifle to go along with my 1886 Browning High Grade SRC. I asked on the classifieds here and Joe Reilly was helpful to tell me he had seen one on Auction Arms. At any rate I got it and it will be delivered to my dealer for pick up tomorrow. I am real anxious to get it and see if it shoots as well as my SRC. I have attached the photos from the auction. It looks to have some great wood as most of the high grades do. I will pass along a range report as soon as I can get out. :D

SJ...That's a beautiful Browning High Grade rifle you just bought! The Browning '86 High Grade receiver is quite ornate. My Browning 1886 "Montana" rifle is exactly the same rifle except for the receiver engraving. No "lawyering" on these...isn't it great!

I guarantee you're going to love that new Browning '86 rifle! Congratulations!!! :D

Anyone have one of the Forest Service SRCs?

I only hope the trigger is better on this one than the one that came on my High Grade SRC. That one was heavy and gritty until I had an action job done on it. Now it is just under 3 pounds and crisp. In spite of the trigger the SRC was pure eye candy and shoots tight groups. It has accounted for several head of game including a few Texas hogs and 2 midwest whitetails. It is going to be a long night waiting for the Fed Ex truck to deliver.

That's a beautiful rifle. I used to have one, but it was just to dog gone pretty to go packing in the woods. I got rid of it.

Picked her up this evening and she is even prettier in person than she was in the pictures on the auction. Her trigger is crisp but just a tad heavy. The action is also just a bit heavy, but I will get her all cleaned and lubricated tomorrow before I decide if she needs an action job. She is long and that makes her look slim and sexy. She is also heavy, but she balances very well and the extra barrel helps you to hold her steady as a rock on target. Now I need to give some serious thought to long range sights for her. I hope to get her to the range this weekend and I will pass along a range report when I do. You talk about a great open range rifle. :D

:D That's exactly how I feel about my "Montana" 1886, and with the Browning SRC I think it's a hard to beat pair of 45-70s. :D

Mighty nice looking! After I get a few more 76's and 95's, I think I will grab a few of those 86's! :)

Had to hear her bark so I stoked her with 3 rounds of factory Winchester 405 gr jacketed flat points. I know very anemic but they are fairly quiet and do not disturb the neighbors much. I am able to get 25 yards to the target in the back here. All three rounds were dead center and made a pretty clover leaf with the sights as set from the factory.
:D :D :D Now I am real anxious to get to the range.
