uncles are cool

Post by mescalero1 »

On my last trip to New Mexico, the primary purpose of going was to install the windmill at my uncle's place.
Well, I took 7 pistols and 1 rifle.
As is usual in trying to co-ordinate sub-contractors and day labor, things got down to the wire and I had to get it done that saturday and go back to Phoenix that sunday.
I the rush to get out sunday morning, I forgot my S&W model 10 pin gun.
When I got to Phx, sunday afternoon, I called him and told him I forgot my pistol. it was loaded, he should unload it.

I take great pride in being "that crazy uncle" every family has. It's even better that I'm 37 but I have neices and nephews 9+ years older than I am.

My dad came out of a HUGE family of 17 kids. (7 were half brothers and sisters) Mom had three. With about 20 uncles, that might give you a clue what I had to endure!

I bought my first wife a little Smith & Wesson kit gun shortly after we were married. We went to visit her grandmother, who was born at the turn of the century and cam to Kansas as a small girl. She lived her entire life on a hardscrabble farm in central Kansas.

My wife was showing off her new pistol and said "don't worry grandma, it's not loaded" ... she proceeded to get dressed down by that grand old lady, along the lines of "What good is an empty gun, might as well carry a rock!"

They don't make 'em like her any more.

Can I use the international stupid line? I can see many applications for that one.

I much prefer the "Mischevious Grandpa" over the role of the Uncle. Nobody tells Grandpa what to do (except maybe Grandma) -- not even the Uncles. When "Grandpa" does it everyone just roles their eyes and chalks it up to old age. And usually most kids are better off with Grandpa because Grandpa has the money to stake the mischef. Even the uncles have to come to Grandpa for money sometimes.

All that said, Uncles are pretty cool.

I've had people telling me what to do all my life... it's never been a problem yet.

I think they refer to it as passive aggressive behavior.
