New marlin leaves me with question

I recently bought a Marlin 1895g in 45-70. Its something ive wanted since they were introduced but was never able to come up with the money to get one. I see it does'nt have the ported barrel that they originally came equipped with. Can anyone tell me when they stopped using the ported barrel and why they deleted it?

Maybe from complaints about the excessive muzzle blast?

I've been trying to find one WITHOUT the ports, no luck yet.
