Post by skinnygun »

Is there a .308 Winchester leverevolution ? not the .308 Marlin leverevolution .
Can the .308 Marlin be fired in a .308 Winchester rifle ?

No and No

There are no tube-fed 308 Win guns that need a soft point, so no market to sell to. Hard pointy bullets work just fine.

The Marlin headspaces on a rimmed case and the 308 Win headspaces on the shoulder.

I do not believe the 308 Win action would close on a Marlin case.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I don't believe the action was long enough for a .308 Winchester.
Anyway, they made the .308 Marlin with a smaller case.

It does look kind of like the .308/.30-06 situation, that the Marlin might fit in the chamber of a .308 Win (never tried it), but you'd have some major headspace issues, a ruined case, and if you were lucky, still have both eyes and gun intact. I would most definitely NOT try it.

Supposedly (see links above) the ballistics aren't that much different, though.

Just get you some 308 hornady SST bullets to use in the 308 winchester.

i would have liked to seen marlin make a gummy tipped .307 wcf. would have made more sense and would have been a better cartridge. :? since its' been brought up, how bout a .356wcf with 180 and 220 grain gummy points. out of 20" barrels , the older round are much better, loaded to their true potential, with the new gummmy tips, than the new marlin .3o8 and .338.

The manufacturer is req'd to stamp the cartridge upon the barrel. Shooting anything other than this cartridge is not advised.

The .308 cartridge has proven it's worth as a long range hunting tool for well over 5 decades. In short, .308 is a keeper!
