A M-S 6.5x54 mm carbine, and a Savage M99 250 Savage, were Roy Chapman Andrews' choice of general purpose hunting/meat rifles during his Central Asiatic Expeditions, circa 1920-1930.

Tycer,
I have shot the 6.5x54mm for years and love it, especially the Mannlicher rifles it is chambered in.

Yes!
Love the cartridge but cant handle the Mannlicher action, nor any split bridge action.
Gotta have a receiver sight, at least, before I can hit anything.
My M-S is on a M98 Mauser with an old Lyman and a set trigger. A carbine to make your heart skip a beat. It's the only one of my assortment that my son has put his name on.
And yes, I know that they used to make a swing away sight for the M-S. I consider such a frivolous commodity reserved for the wealthy. You know, collectors and such.
I use the 160 gr Hornady exclusively but recently got some 160 gr Sierra's to try when I get back on my feet.

Who really needs a box of brass?
I bought a new box of Norma for a friend's brother and he never picked it up or paid for it.

I have a nice 1904 Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbine in 6.5 X 54.
I don't shoot it much, but when I had a chance to buy it, I could not resist.
I also have 1908 carbines in 8 x 56 and 9 X 56 MS.
Oh, and a 1950 and 1952 model rifles in .270, .30-06

Lyman once made a fine peep for Mannlicher splitbridge. It is mounted at the bolt stops, and slips aside when the bolt is worked. Now and then such peeps are sold at ebay.Pepe Ray wrote:Yes!

Old Shatterhand:
Thanks.
1st, I wouldn't even look at E-bay website if they were giving away gold nuggets to every other viewer.
2nd, The price of a "collectors item" such as that would make a big dent in my "07 taxes.
3rd, Don't have a Mannlicher, nor a Carcano, nor a Ruskie nor anything else that wont accept a $40. receiver sight.
I do, however, like the old cartridge enough to have succumbed to the enchantment of owning a decent rifle for it.
Someday when I've practiced my photography sufficiently I'll post some pics of my little beauty. It's not a wall hanger. Took a nice 6 pointer w/it a few years ago.
Nice to hear from you.
