Winchester 94 RANGER

I have a chance to pick up a Winchester 94 RANGER at a pretty good price (for a RANGER). I have a 94 .357 Trapper that I will never part with. However, I need this 30-30. (of course, it's a need).
Does anyone have a RANGER model and what do you think of the quality and shootability? Is there any difference from the regular models besides the lack of walnut? Is the fit and finish inferior in some way?
I'm on the fence about this one...maybe wait for a deal on a regular model.

Personally I'd go for it! You might pick up some nice wood for it later. In the mean time you don't have to treat like safe queen, a few honest dings just add character anyway.
I just picked up an Antique Model with a darn recoil pad on it, so I'll be looking for some decent wood when I can afford it.

Joe,

There is no internal differences between the Ranger models and the standard Win 94AEs.
The only differences will be the wood and sometimes the sights and finish.
If the price is good and all is well with it, buy it.

The one on the left is a WalMart Ranger that was a dark purple-brown until I stripped and sanded it down. Very nice, clear blond wood underneath.
I liked it so much I did it to the one on the far right, a '70's vintage Sears.

I genuinely enjoy my Ranger. the stock is plain and the blue finish is -----mmmmmmm-ok ----- but its a great rifle. I added a saddle ring and a John Wayne loop to mine to give it a little more character, and it could use a tang sight, -- but the tang sight is not mandatory.

I'd pick it up if you are leaning --- unless the price is pretty outlandish, its doubtful you would lose any money on it, even if you sold it to get a fancier one later

I have a 94AE and like it mucho. My wood is not the blonde wood but a nice dark color. The trigger pull was awful but I've managed to get it down to a managable 4.5lbs. You didn't state the price but if you think it's good. grab it up. Can't really go wrong. Here's a pic:

I have a 20ga. Winchester Ranger. It works great and I never had any trouble with it.

I love tractors. I have a Kubota T2080 lawn tractor. It has a 42" mowing deck, 7 bushel bagger, snow plow, tire chains and weights. I baught it new a few months ago.

It's at a pawn shop and they are asking $259 for it. I didn't get a good look at it yet, but I'm hoping to go by today and work a trade. We'll see how it goes!

Yep, that's my L2800.
4wd, 5' bucket, 8' backhoe, 6' boxblade, 6' rake, 48" rear mower, 6' boom pole.

It's amazing how tough and useful most any tractor can be.
