I have an early (SN 2XXX) that could use some work, as it is balky about feeding rounds from the elevator to the chamber. It will shoot once the round is chambered, but I have to work the action several times to get it to feed. Anyone know a 'smith who could work on this?
thanks.

Re: Work on early M39A Marlin
Work on it yourself, nothing to it. Replace the cartridge stop spring that controls the cartridge feeding out of the tube onto the carrier. Only cost a few bucks from Brownells. Takes about 90 seconds.
OK, after re-reading your post, is the cartridge feeding onto the carrier OK but wont go into the chamber because the nose of the cartridge hangs up on the top of the chamber? If so, then the cartridge guide spring is at fault or maybe completely missing. Replace it, takes a couple bucks and maybe 60 seconds.

Have you tried taking it down and giving the internals a good cleaning ?

If it were my rifle I'd take it down, clean it thoroughly and replace both springs while I was at it.
Just a thought.

Cycle it slow and watch, but my guess is that the cartridge guide located just above and in front of the receiver is in need of 5 minutes of work. The screw on the top front, of your receiver, holds it in.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Before you do anything, try different ammo's. Leverguns can be like semi-auto pistols. There is some ammo's they just don't like.
