MY HANDS ARE SHAKIN' AND MY KNEES ARE WEAK....

Post by Terry Murbach »

YOU KNOW FOLKS, AFTER 59 YEARS OF SHOOTING I DO NOT GET ALL THAT EXCITED WHEN A NEW GUN COMES ALONG. I HAVE PRETTY MUCH SHOT 'EM ALL AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. STILL, THERE ARE THRILLS TO BE HAD GETTING CERTAIN GUNS AND ONE OF THOSE TOOK UP RESIDENCE THIS AFTERNOON HERE ON THE BLACK HILLS EASTERN SLOPE. I HAVE LOOKED FOR ONE OF THESE FOR MANY DECADES NOW, EVEN MISSING BY A COUPLE BY WEIRD CIRCUMSTANCES AND HAVING TAFFIN GET THERE FIRST ON ANOTHER. IT IS A MARLIN 336RC 20" STRAIGHT STOCKED CARBINE IN 35REM AND I AM HERE TO TELL YOU IT IS A PEACH OF A NICE GUN. BEAUTIFUL STRAIGHT GRAINED BLACK AMERICAN WALNUT, DEEP BLUING LIKE THEY USE TO DO, A SMOOTHNESS OF ACTION THAT SEEMS TO BE MISSING IN THE NEWER MADE GUNS, AND NOT A CENT SPENT ON MEANINGLESS ORNAMENTATION OTHER THAN THE BULLSEYE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BUTTSTOCK. [ WHOOPS, IT DOES HAVE THE GOLD TRIGGER I NEVER NOTICED TILL NOW..]
AND NOW I CANNOT FIND MY LIST OF LETTER DESIGNATIONS TO TELL WHEN IT WAS MADE. THE SERIAL NUMBER STARTS WITH A V....
THE ONLY BAD PART IS JUDY BOUGHT IT FOR A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR ME AND I CANNOT TAKE IT OUT SHOOTING UNTIL AFTER KRIS KRINGLE DOES HIS THING IN ONE WEEK, NINE HOURS AND 51 SECONDS.

Glad to read it. Someone was selling one on another board last week and I thought of you. Maybe that"s where Santa found yours :)

Hope you enjoy it, after a lifetime of searching. After Christmas, of course.

Terry,

Glad you got something you've wanted. There are a few guns I'd turn to jello over, so I do understand.

Now, hopefully Santa will drop off a couple boxes of ammo for it and you can give us a really smokin range report after Christmas. With photos of course.

Wow, Judy is being mean to you. Kinda like when you was a wee little kid and you just knew what was under the tree but you didn't dare open the wrapped boxes. Oh bo do I remember those times.

Well, you know how fast time passes so don't fret ... too much.

Congratulations Terry!

Judy is such a good sport, I'll bet if you hang aroudn the tree, whimpering and stroking the box long enough, along wih a little judicious begging, she will probably let you take it for a test drive before next Friday.

Well I'm glad you got a nice Christmas present under the tree, and in a nice caliber too! Say, Terry, do you think you'd bet excited and shaky about this http://www.cimarron-firearms.com/Repeat ... arbine.htm if it were under the tree?

That's great, Terry. I feel your pain. I've got a RCBS chargemaster and other goodies for BP reloading under our tree and I can't touch them either until Christmas. It's driving me nuts cause I'd like to get some rounds loaded up and be ready for shooting on Christmas day.

Congratulations Terry. I wanted that gun to go with my other two 336Ts (one .30 one .35) but put it off long enough for you to see it. Glad it is in hand. I think the .35s have a better feel than the .30s. That extra metal being removed from the barrel makes a noticeable difference. Those .35s whack the deer well, too. Just fun to shoot.

Hobie

YOU KNOW WHAT, HOBIE, IT IS NOT A 336T. RIGHT ON THE BARREL IT SAYS IT IS A 336RC. I AM NOT TOO SURE I QUITE UNDERSTAND ALL THE MARLIN NAMING SYSTEM AS IT SEEMS TO ME "DAT SOME BE DIS AN SOME BE DAT AND DAY ALL BE DA SAME."

Congrats Terry. I heard that the 200 gr Remington is a good bullet. I have a couple of hundred, or so, laying around. I've yet to load them up in my 358 BLR but will get around-to-it someday maybe. Hey, if that 356 94 gets to feeling left out send it on down to Texas and I'll keep it company. That's the rifle that would make MY HANDS SHAKE AND MY KNEES WEAK. Merry Christmas.

Well Merry Christmas Terry,

I lucked into one of those a few years ago myself--serial number also beginning with V, in 35 Remington. They had some STYLE back then (except maybe for that gold-colored trigger)!! I'm sure yours will shoot great! By the way, mine is particularly fond of the 200gr RCBS cast bullet--but does pretty close to as well with the 200 gr Corelocts, but who are we to quibble over fractions of an inch in group disparity. Again, the best to you and yours.

Marlin needs to re-introduce this model and except maybe for the gold trigger, keep the styling exactly like the V serialled version. Although not really necessary, a ballard-rifled barrel would be nice.
