An interesting type of ivory for sure. A grand for a set of grips is somewhat ridiculous to me though.

Not quite my cup of tea but I can enjoy looking at them. A grand though? Then again, when was the last time you saw a narwhal in YOUR neck of the woods?

I like those burled maple stocks though. They'd look gooood on a BBQ 1911...

Considering the rarity of Narwal, and the even greater rarity of their "Horn" on the market, i'd say that a grand ain't a bad price, if your pockets are deep enough.

Think about it, elephant ivory grips run around $500.00 or so, right?

A shootable elephant is going to be packing anywhere from 100 to 200 pounds of ivory. That can make a heckuva lot of grips, billiard balls, and piano keys.

Narwal have only one horn/tusk and it runs a lot slimmer and lighter than an elephant tusk. probably no more than 50 pounds, if that much.

Add to that the fact that Narwal have always been rare and even more rarely taken. So while wildly beyond my reach, the price is not beyond reason.

Personally I'd rather have elephant ivory anyway, so even if filthy rich I'd pass on those grips.

It's good looking ivory, for sure, but as a matter of style I'm not sure that ivory from a sea creature belongs on a side-arm, unless one is a sailor or happens to carry a pocket-sized harpoon-gun.

 :)

I think they're pretty cool but way beyond my budget.

However, 40 years ago paying $75 for a set of ivories for your 1911 was rediculas!
