Question on M92 in 45LC

Post by FALPhil »

Are most current makes of the Model 92 strong enough to handle 45 Long Colt loaded to +P pressures?

"Stout" .45 Colt loads

Post by Yance »

Since Rossi chambers their '92 in .454 C I don't think you should have a problem with +P .45 Colt ammo. The last loads I shot in my older Rossi were 330 gr bullets chronoing 1540 FPS. Roughly equivalent to the old .45-70-405 load.

Shot loads very similar to the ones Yance mentions in mine - they shot very well.

I called Legacy about the Puma 92 45lc and the told me the do not recimend shooting +p loads. And only cowboy loads in the brass frame models, which is what I have.

With the steel frames you can load them up hot enough to make you wish someone else was shooting it  :D . The 92 repros are good strong actions and should give you little trouble.

But they are the folks that market the 454cas guns. Any of the book loads for the Rugers or TC's will not be a problem for any of the steel Puma 92 action.

I would be so bold as to say, you will probably blow a ruger up before you hurt the 92 action. Think of the amount of metal surrounding the two different chambers.

But, Go easy on the brass frames.

If you want to shoot +p loads in the Puma 92, get rid of the brass frame!!!!!!!! Of course, this means you can buy a new rifle, or with the trade in, maybe two!!!!!! Art :D

Thanks, guys. I was pretty much set on a steel frame Puma, which I will modify the bolt to get rid of the ridiculous looking safety.

I like this one the best:

I shoot a 255FP lead in front of 15.7gr of HS7 out of my 16" 45 Puma they give a stout shove and are nicely accurate to 100 yards. Let shoulder tell you how to load it. Happy shooting
