50-110 bullet questions

Post by Mike8623 »

OK folks, needing info for my 50-110 winchester 1886 project. I see the bullet diam. for the 50-110 is .512 but I keep seeing this .510 info for bullets. So which is it do you look for .512 or .510 bullets......it seems there is more selection for the .510, can you use either

one other question, is there a source for the larger weight bullets that are jacketed, say over 500 grains

standard American and British .50 cal bore is .500" and groove is .510" although the 505 Gibbs dosen't follow this. Green Mnt. barrel has/had some 50-110 lever gun barrels with a tight .508 groove. the .512" diameter is pretty standard for shooting cast in .50 cal barrels. my converted Browning 50-110 has a .500"/.510" barrel with 1-20" twist and i shoot .512" cast out of it.

Mike,
I use the .510 grain bullets in the 50ak, should be the same for the 50-110. I have had good luck with the woodleigh 535 rn (I flatten the profile) and they now have a 50-110/50ak 500 grain Fn. There is also a woodleigh 570 grain rn, but I have not tried it. Those are the heaviest readily avaliable bullets I know of that are jacketed and adaptable to the levergun.
