WTK: Who are QUALITY lever action gunsmiths?

Post by prebans »

I've got a stainless Marlin 1895 inbound and want to have a few things modified. Specifically, I know I want it made into a takedown, want a reasonable winter-glove-size loop (not a huge for-show-only loop) installed, and want the barrel shortened. The sights will also have to be drifted back due to the barrel shortening.

Any ideas? I only know about Wild West. I know that they do GREAT work, but I want to know about others before I make up my mind.

Thanks,

Mike

Thank you!

A quick FYI on dead or redirected links:

Cosby Custom Guns - http://www.cosbycustomguns.com goes to an online gambling site. I can't find any new site for them. Bozeman Trail Arms, Mfg. - http://www.ycsi.net/users/gunsmith is gone; their new site is http://www.bozemantrailarms.com/. DRC Custom Guns - http://www.drccustomgunsights.com goes to a random page. I found references to them still being in business but no new web site name.

Take care,

Mike

And, because no one else said it, don't forget to post pictures of the finished rifle.

Clements Custom Guns, out of Virginia, I believe did similar work for me except the take down. Had a Marlin XLR 1895 shortened, crowned, extended the mag tube and put on a Wild West loop. It came out great. He posts pics of his work. Price was very reasonable.

Two reasons:

1. Easier to transport and ship in a smaller case, especially useful in these new days of airline fees for EVERYTHING.

2. I've always wanted one. :D
