OT- Moving to Georgia

Post by 336A »

I found out today that I am going to be stationed at Ft. Benning Georgia by this time next year. Is there any fellow forum members from here that is from that area and wouldn't mind showing me around?

BJ Snow, an occasional poster here lives in Columbus, GA, and has worked with the Army Marksmanship Unit for many years.

BJ is a Master knifemaker, and outstanding pistolsmith, a Master Mason. an Army retiree and an all around outstandingly fine person.

When you get moved, if you can't find Bj's contact info, let me know and I'll pass it along to you.

Ha nope, instead I'll be what I call professional baby sitter or as what everyone else knows them Drill Instructor/Sergeant. Not exactly my idea of a good duty assignment but that is just one mans opinion however.

Drill Instructors, some are hated, some are loved... few are forgotten. I was in the midst of boot 40 years ago this month. Still remember my D.I. A fine gentlemen who started me out right on my Navy career, short as it was!

When you do the run to Alabama you'll have plenty of time (about an hour) to think about all the history that has taken place both at FT Benning and in the area. Aside from the usual post related stuff, it is a pretty nice area. There's somebody here from La Grange which is just up the road. I wouldn't move there but it is a pretty nice part of the country.
Sincerely,

Hobie
