I took an old steel receiver BLR in .308 out, with a Weaver 3 x. Next time I will be going with open sights only, constant rain or drizzle and two stags shot at ranges of 6 yards and 12 yards...
The first was a 9 pointer that I roared up (called in)

There is nothing better than a lever action for close in bush work, nothing handles better, or faster, and you can cock them silently and swiftly. The BLR is better without a scope and my first experiment with scoping a levergun has had this result. I shot these stags in spite of the scope.
