New Bloke from way way down South & loves guns with levers!

Post by Nicknack »

G'day from Brisbane Australia thought I might join up for some lever talk.
I have two original Winchester 1892 32-20 24'' long stainless steel octagon Magazine made in 1926 and a 25-20 in real smick condition with a button mag. 1913.
and a marlin 45-70 Cowboy also a 44 Magnum Marlin Cowboy which is being rebarreled with a 26 1/2'' octagon Green Mountain barrel as the original marlin 24'' had a grove dimension of .4335 and shot like 12 gauge.
I also have just bought two 1885 Low Walls one a sad looking 44-40 half round/oct 24''made in 1898.
And the other in 32-20(1919) with a 28" octagon BBL with the rare "The Stinger" & the wasp stamping which was rolled stamped by Winchester for the import markings of Perry Brothers Co. Brisbane. The 32-20 will be re-sleeved back to 32-20 unfortunately I will have to reblue them both as they have lived a very hard life down here but the 32-20 will be able to keep all her Winchester markings.
The 44 will be rebarreled into a No#2 profile 32'' octagon 218 Bee,the stock and forend will also be replaced. She is missing her firing pin, firing pin retainer screw and rear sight, the stock is unusable and the bore and barrel are very sad,but they will both live to shoot smoke and flame again.

I'm also about to take possession of two Remington Rolling Blocks a No#2 in 32-20 and a No#4 .22 takedown the 32WCF will be rebarreled into a 357 magnum 26'' octagon.
Here is a couple of pics. of my old 1892 25-20 circa 1913 and she shoots tight groups with one of the best bores I have ever seen in an old 92

Welcome to Leverguns. You have a liking for my most favorite rifle round, 32wcf.I have a Winchester,Model 1892 24 inch rifle made in 1917, I bought the rifle from an uncle in early 1954.It is still an excellent shooting rifle, very accurate. You have a real good selection of good using rifles. That 25wcf would make a real turkey killer.

Nicknack..welcome aboard!!

I have many fond memories of my time spent in your wonderful country. Back in the 90's, I lived & worked in the ACT for several months on and off, and if I was ever run out of town and had to live overseas, Australia would be my first choice. I think it was the only place I've ever lived outside of California that felt like "home". Spent many a day slumming about Victoria and New South Wales.

Although, I must admit, the appeal of a test cricket match still escapes me to this day....might need a case or two of Tooheys Red to get through it....

Look forward to your posts!

Glad to see you found the place,
enjoy.

Aussies come in here from a heck of a lot further south than Brisbane,
there's even a Tasmanian in here somewhere, and from down there you can feel the antarctic wind blowing around the old south pole.

Nicknack were a pretty relaxed bunch here. We even discuss EBR (Evil Black Rifles) commonly called assault rifles by the press. Single shots are generally very welcome subjects here! And the high and low wall browning single shots well more than a few of us want one!
