My Winter Stevens 44 project is complete

Post by jdad »

I started this back in November and finally finished it today. I did the majority of the metal prep and all the wood work. I was lucky enough to find a forearm that fit perfect. John Taylor relined the barrel (see photo), built a new breech block, turned the barrel a full turn, and recut the extractor slot. I had Paul Shuttleworth do the Stevens case coloring, on the receiver and buttplate. The barrel was rust blued by Craig Steggal who took my polish job and repolished the barrel to a mirror.

This is a John Taylor reline.

We had a 44 come in the shop missing the mainspring and trigger spring. Very interesting action. I liked it but, of course, it wasn't for sale.

I love the color case on yours. That looks SO good.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I love to see old rifle's rescued. That is outstanding... indeed, it earns the R.Lee stamp of approval!

Very nice, I am sitting on the fence right now on doing the same thing to a roller I have my eye on. You just pushed me closer to doing it.

Thanks
