reproduction display rifle

Post by raisedin99 »

first time poster... Writing for a friend

Friend was to set up a western display in his home and as he says needs a functional firing long barreled lever rifle.

I told him the old ones would cost him a fortune; can someone suggest a good reproduction 1873 or 1886 winchester that would be in the 600 - 800 dollar range ?

thanks,

Uberti or Cimarron (maybe a couple others) makes the repros, if he checks Gunbroker.com, or Auction Arms , he may get lucky

For display, nothing beats a gun that is wore out. You might find such a "Wallhanger" if ya were to ask folks on the SASS WIRE classified section. Gotta be a 66 or 73 that is just plum tuckered out somebody would sell ya.

There are places that sell non-functional copies, much cheaper... and some are so realistic you'd have to take it down to know the difference!

Reproductions are in the $1K and up. Tho', you can find used ones on GunBroker from time to time for less... Non shooting (or do I mean "shootable?) originals can be had from time to time for less also.

Funny you should mention that. There's a pawn shop here that I frequent and it has a beautiful model '66 hanging above one of the doors. I've looked at that rifle many times so one day I asked one of the guys that works there to tell me about it. He said that, like me, he looked at that rifle many times when he went to work there. Finally one day he brought a ladder to work and climbed up to have a better look - turns out it was plastic. He said the other workers in the shop were standing there laughing at him. But it sure does look real.

Welcome aboard! As noted, a new reproduction is going to run near a grand. You may be able to find one less expensive, well-used, on Gunbroker or the like. Pawn shops, at least around here, seem to be very proud of their guns lately, so no deals to be had. A non-firing replica can be had new for around a c-note. Personally, I like the idea of finding an original that is a wall-hanger only. That would make for the best "western room"! Good luck! :D

Only cost about $200 but the funny thing or sad depending on how you look at it, by state law if it ships to Cal or Kansas you have to buy a dislay shadow box for it too.
